though admittedly ive got zoe aged 10 into robotchicken starwars.

What is robotchicken starwars? My 7 year old is a Star Wars freak. The little lego characters are a hot commodity for him and his little friends. We adopted a kitten this summer and he named her Padme.

robot chicken is a show from the brain of seth green that uses stop motion animation with action figures to tell stories. theyve tackled starwars twice. and theyre well worth watching. theyre funny as hell. though im not 7 so...

Vader was seduced by the dark side!.. duh!!

Seriously, people.. hate all you want.. there's a damn good reason Star Wars is the greatest story of our time.

Vader did not know he had kids. He found out AFTER he plotted to destroy them, and since already a follower of the darkside, he continued with his plan to destroy them, but emotion over ruled and he could not kill his own kids.. YOU MISSED THE WHOLE FUCKING POINT OF THE SAGA!

Its a mythical story of rise and fall, with "good" overruling in the end.. It's simplistic, but you can't beat it.

If you're not feeling it, you're either heartless, misguided or a robot.

The original star wars trilogy can never be overrated.. impossible!

Not to mention the politics of the empire and how it came to be and how it relates to our world..

anakin was weak. not to mention a whiney little git. thinking the universe owed him something. wouldnt listen to the advice of those who knew better. puh-lease... he shouldve been smacked in the chops long ago. long before he basically killed his wife. not to mention defenseless children. he was manipulated to perfection by the emperor, though this turned out to be palpatines personal downfall in the end. talk about frankensteins monster. anyhoo...

I'd say this is my biggest complaint about the prequel trilogy. It turned this kick ass, bad ass mofo (Vader) into some whinny ass little BITCH.

Not sure what I'd have done differently, but I'd like to think I'd come up with something better than a momma's boy who couldn't handle death for the reason Anakin turned to the Dark Side.

palpatine was a master manipulator. but if one ever thought qui gonn was correct in his assumption that it would be anakin whod bring balance to the force then they are about as deluded as anakin was. it was always gonna be luke - always. and no matter how many times anakin was told about how seductive the dark side was he never quite got it. he thought he knew it all. sure he was redeemed by saving his sons life. and perhaps thats what lucas was about all along... the redemptive power fo love.

hayden christiansen was horrible casting ... the story under the direction of someone else could have been better ...

really - the only true kick ass character in this saga was yoda ... in all the movies and in all the fantastical worlds ever created by the imagination of everyone - no character comes close to being as cool as yoda ...

You almost had me....until the politics. There's really nothing relevant in Star Wars that can't be said for any other movie that dabbles in politics. Just like religious sermons, vague political concepts ring true no matter what era. That's how they pull you in. I just chose to let it go because it (Star Wars) served it's purpose. It entertained me as a child. Then I grew up and had kids of my own and stopped being fascinated with stuff like that.

vader didnt know he had children until empire strikes back.

hell, lucas didn't even know vader had children until empire stikes back. he was making up things as he went along...
  • The original concept of the thread was really a joke. I don't truly believe that Lucas was sending a message to kill children. I was looking for a "haha...I never heard that take before. Interesting"...I wasn't really anticipating a debate of Darth Fucking Vader's moral values or whether or not he owes the families that raised his kids monthly checks stroked with his bionic arm.

I guess I personally have a hard time understanding how grown ass men have such passion about stuff like that. Dressing up like the characters, buying all the dolls (action figures), forcing their kids to watch it trying to somehow relive that magic through them somehow, writing 6000 word posts defending the story line. I don't get it. It was great for it's time. Why do people have such a hard time letting go of it? I loved it...when I was 9.

I wont let those movies go because of the way the make me feel, for those two hours that i sit and watch them, I'm a kid again without a care in the world. Escape is a very underestimated form of relaxation.

when it comes down to it, you could say the same thing about loving PJ when you were 20 or whatever. some things are timeless to some and not to others. Star Wars and PJ are that way for me.

i think most of us knew the thread was joke to begin with, and it was funny. until you started insulting people for what they like and telling them to grow up.

come down off your high horse a bit there chief. ;)

I will, as soon as you come down from your Millineum Falcon, 'trooper. <
see, don't you just feel uncomfortable reading that as an adult?

Oh well, we'll just have to agree to disagree.

I think Qui Gon was right, Anakin DID bring balance to the force. He killed one of the most powerful Sith in recent memory and his next in command [himself.] It was Luke who had to remind him that you can always see good in someone.

And to the whole talk about grown men loving it, I don't see the problem. I'm sure many people here loved Pearl Jam when they were in their early 20's and still do now. To me watching Luke stare at the two suns setting on Tatooine just wanting to get away and do something with his life gives me shivers still, who doesn't relate to that once in a while?

The whole final duel at the end of Return of the Jedi with the music playing is epic to me too, especially watching Luke's frustration as they are taunting him saying his friends are going into a trap.

I wish they did a followup to the Return Of The Jedi.

After the Emperor and Vader died, there was a power vacuum. On the planet Gerona the Duros, who were often kept in place by The Empire, were now free to slaughter the Twi'leks with impunity. The Twi'leks asked the rebellion to help them, but they did not want to appear to be an occupying force, so they simply allowed the Duros to continue slaughter the Twi'lek population.

...or something. I'm making this up as I go. :D

The Empire was based off of the Nazis.. The emporer used fear to gain power. He fabricated a war.. The Empire was created and had all the power.. The rebels formed.. seems political to me.

And its not really a kids movie at all. I liked the action and spaceships as a child, but never understood the emotional struggles going on fully until I was a young adult... seeing the rereleases back in the 90s, I remember a lot of senior citizens in the crowd. It's really a story for all ages.

And back to how I mentioned Vader didn't want to kill his own children. The Emporer wanted them destroyed, but Vader reacted by saying he could convert them to the darkside, and if not then he would destroy them.. The emporer thought that was a good idea. When Luke refused to turn to the Darkside, Vader refused to kill Luke and killed the Emperor instead.
