we just have to tweak it a bit to make sure it fits our political agenda.
"This improperly encourages the "social justice" movement among Christians"
God forbid Christians support social justice... when did Jesus promote helping the poor at the expense of the rich? He was a free market capitalist for God's sakes! Don't you remember the scene where he found the moneylenders in the temple and helped them get their 401k's in order?

that was the biggest crock i have ever read. it says not to dumb it down, but it already seems kinda dumb to me. the poster above said it well, the bible is too liberal??? lol....."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln

From what I can tell, I don't think Jesus advocated government coercion in order to achieve social justice. If there is law, it is only natural law as put forth by God. He wants us all to be better people by loving each other, and being charitable completely voluntarily.
 According to Webster's online:
 so⋅cial⋅ism /ˈsoʊʃəˌlɪzəm/ Spelled Pronunciation [soh-shuh-liz-uhm]
–noun 1. a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.
 2. procedure or practice in accordance with this theory.
 3. (in Marxist theory) the stage following capitalism in the transition of a society to communism, characterized by the imperfect implementation of collectivist principles.
#1 makes no specific mention of government, unless you count "social organization" as government. It does mention "community."
 #2 does not apply.
#3 mentions a transition to communism. Where some people believe true capitalism can exist with no government, and socialsim to be the bridge between this no-government and total government in communism:
 Also according to Webster,
 com⋅mu⋅nism /ˈkɒmyəˌnɪzəm/ Spelled Pronunciation [kom-yuh-niz-uhm]
–noun 1. a theory or system of social organization based on the holding of all property in common, actual ownership being ascribed to the community as a whole or to the state.
 2. (often initial capital letter) a system of social organization in which all economic and social activity is controlled by a totalitarian state dominated by a single and self-perpetuating political party.
 3. (initial capital letter) the principles and practices of the Communist party.
 4. communalism.
Then socialism, by definition must include some government involvement if it is the transition from zero government to state control.
So, the first definition of "socialist" does fit with Jesus if "social organization" doesn't equate to be government.
I like to think of HIM as The Libertarian with the biggest heart
You wonder why there's so much fuss over this word, SOCIALISM these days? It has two official definitions that are really quite different from each other. But notice how close the first definition of communism and the first definition of socialism are? Identical, if it wasn't for communism being "the community as a whole OR TO THE STATE."
You can see how it's not hard to equate those two words, either. People ought to underscore these words with which definition they're talking about when we use them, and maybe we wouldn't all get so angry with each other 0 0

Funny... I call myself a "sympathetic libertarian" so I guess me and Jesus are kinda similar in a lot of ways. Everything not forbidden is compulsory and eveything not compulsory is forbidden. You are free... free to do what the government says you can do.0 Everything not forbidden is compulsory and eveything not compulsory is forbidden. Most Libertarians I know fit this same description. We are very "DIY" (Do it yourself). In the absence of many forms of government (not all of them), there is a universal need to step it up as individuals to contribute to society through charity, service, etc... to help things run smoothly. The reasons for doing so are very community-oriented as well as pragmatic. It's the force of government that brings resentment, and what's worse is when our wages and property are taken from us forcefully, and used inefficiently, if not STOLEN. Then you have REAL resentment towards government.0

I'd say Jesus was a Communist in the true meaning of the word, the definition describing communalism.com⋅mu⋅nism /ˈkɒmyəˌnɪzəm/ Spelled Pronunciation [kom-yuh-niz-uhm]
–noun 1. a theory or system of social organization based on the holding of all property in common, actual ownership being ascribed to the community as a whole or to the state.
In many parts of the world, communalism is a modern term that describes a broad range of social movements and social theories which are in some way centered upon the community.
He was more Communal than Socialist or Lib. Most Libs are not communal by nature.0

it is easier for a camel to walk through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.
yeah, the liberal bias was added by us. clearly, this is a conservative, capitalist text.0

You're all wrong... Jesus was an ANARCHIST! Everything not forbidden is compulsory and eveything not compulsory is forbidden. That page is funny, but this really stood out:
Accept the Logic of Hell: applying logic with its full force and effect, as in not denying or downplaying the very real existence of Hell or the Devil.
I think I may have to make my sig 'Accept the logic of Hell'....talk about an oxymoron.0

So you see nothing wrong with this group explicitly devoting itself to attempting to spin the bible to better align with their politics? Isn't that kinda backwards, from a Christian perspective?0

I didn't even look at it. But from the sounds of it, they are definitely a part of the problem. The issue - as has been stated over and over and over - is that people look at these wacko groups and then generalize to all religion.
Not sure about the whole rich/poor/socialist/capitalist thing, but I do know that my church is partnering this month to prepare, pack and ship 1 million meals in association with an organization called "Feed my Starving Children". We are pushing for 5000 volunteers to make this happen.
It's just hard to be a part of things like that and hear people just totally - and ignorantly - trash you for things they have no clue. The only people we should try to get even with...
