I havent been on the board in quite a while. I am really surprised at the general reception to some of the songs on Backspacer..Seems like most everyone dislikes Speed of Sound. I thought this one would be at the top of most peoples lists. Just curious...what is that you dislike about it?

I think most people, as well as myself, dislike the way it turned out on the album after hearing it in it's rawest form being played live by Ed at his solo shows, and then on the Ed demo. In my opinion it loses some of it's beauty when played by the whole band.

    Why?
Because it's shitty. The album version is cheapy. Too many instruments without requirement. Overdone.
Not 10c member? Have sth to say? write to me - I'll put it on the forum

I LOVE the album version. I like the fact that sounds almost like a jam session.

I like it much better than the demo. It's really grown on me. You can actually dance to the album version. Its got some backbone.

I agree. I was surprised to see that the album version wasn't just the demo with some strings thrown on. At the time I never have heard The End or Just Breathe from Ed's solo tours so I wasn't sure exactly which songs on BS would have strings. But after hearing the Speed of Sound demo, I was sure that would be one.

The demo is boring.. like Thumbing My Way and Come Back.. the album version is a great bar song!.. my opinion.

    Ha, I can see it.

for me, Supersonic is a little lackluster, and when Speed of Sound starts after, It seems like its going to be a good slow PJ tune and pick the album back up, but it never gets there.

    So why be satisfied?

    Its simple..
People really love to hate and complain.
It makes them feel important and better about themselves.

    SOS is a great song!

Of the three slow songs it is the one I like the best. I am not feeling the slow songs on this record. I always skip them. I like the drumming on "Speed of Sound". The lyrics to "The End" hit pretty close to home (according to my interpretation) which makes it hard to listen to based on what's going on in my life right now.

I like the rocking songs. I think "Force of Nature" might be their best song since "Do the Evolution". Great song.
