Ok so.. as excited as i am for the four philly shows (im beyond excitement really, it has exceeded to a new level :D ) I also get kind of afraid.... Every year, when i do more than two shows in a row.. I always end up blowing out my calf /leg muscles and or voice. Why do i do this to myself? Why can't i just settle down and pace myself? The weird thing is , im not even out of shape , i work out regularly so im not sure how to avoid this post-show bodily pain lol I mean it was so bad after the southern 08 shows that my friends had to literally lift me in the car to ride home ... Maybe i just need to do mad stretching before hand? I've tried to calm myself but it all ends when that music comes on and the lights go down :? I mean i could understand if i was 45 but this has been happening to me since 16!

  • I am a wreck
  • are you drinking or smoking before the shows or during? the green stuff that is
sounds like nerves or your dehydrated. been there done that
  • It's all the adrenaline! It totally drains your body! When it kicks in you 'feel no pain' so you may be pushing yourself to the limit so to speak and straining a muscle or two - pretty much nothing u can do but enjoy the ride and pay for it later! ;)
  • hydrate and take B vitamins before and after show. especially hydrate.

it normally takes a few days after shows for me to get completely back to normal, but nothing like you're talking about here.
  • My neck is always sore from flailing around.
  • I blew out me back during Evolution in Portland. I could barely move but I did not sit down. It was more pain then I have felt in a really long time.

i generally stay hydrated.. but the green stuff? If that makes it worse than i guess im screwed
Now that u mention it, the worst time (the time i could barely walk) WAS after the West palm show, (and i had smoked) and even a gallon of water later i still felt dehydrated.. Will try the b vitamins for sure this time!! Thanks for all the tips :)

After driving from SF to Portland and back in a weekend my body was spent. I've slept like a rock the last few nights. PJ is a tough sport. You gotta be ready for it. GAME READY.

Important to log those extra treadmill miles before a tour and pace yourself on show day not to drink or smoke too much. This can be difficult for some.

YES! Shit, i thought i was just getting old but the day after the Vancouver show my right calf was hurtin like a mother fu#%er. I could hardly jump up and down at the Port show the next day. I'm glad i'm not the only one. I think i'll start stretching or something before shows now!

I got home late from SLC and had about 2 1/2 hours before I had to get up for work, and the last half of that nap I was in a state of semi-consciousness as to NOT flex my calves as they were trying to ball up. I'm still walking with a gimp today, but I bounced for about 2 hours and my knees still feel good. Nike Air Max are endorsed by me!

I have a high intensity cardio workout in the morning, heavy weight lifting in the late afternoon, and low-moderate intensity cardio at night. If I take a day off for Pearl Jam then I can go freaking crazy before, during and after the show :D .
