Great news!...however, who the hell is doing research for Rolling Stone and does anybody really think Godsmack would have beaten Pearl Jam out of the top spot in '06? If that had happened I might have stopped listening to them. And I didn't realize they worked so hard in '06 releasing TWO albums that year, amazing!0

Not that it would matter to me personally whether it's going to be #1 or #276, but good news nonetheless!Bern - September 13, 2006

Yes, they did. Tool, not Godsmack.
Riot Act was obviously in 2002.
Great fact-finding by RS!08/28/98-09/01/00-12/08/02-12/09/02-04/28/03-05/03/03-07/05/03-07/06/03-07/08/03-07/09/03-07/12/03-10/01/04-10/03/05-05/13/06-05/27/06-05/28/06-06/01/06-06/03/06-06/19/08-06/25/08-10/28/09-10/31/09-05/17/10-10/19/13-10/21/13-10/27/13-4/28/16-09/11/22-09/07/240 -
awesome news! The band should be extremely proud of this record because it kicks ass! It deserves to be #1“May you live to be 100 and may the last voice you hear be mine.” - Frank Sinatra0

I've seen this question a bunch but not a definitive answer. Do the 10C sales count toward Billboard's totals or not?
200,000 is a lot if they are only counting Target, iTunes and indie stores. Not so much if you factor in 10C sales I would bet.DAL-7/5/98,10/17/00,6/9/03,11/15/13

This also leads me to another question.
How many artists score a #1 this late into their careers after having been so popular early in the careers?DAL-7/5/98,10/17/00,6/9/03,11/15/13

Excited to see what alice in chains can do...I will swallow poison0 -
honestly, it's great that they are selling well, but let's be honest. pretty weak competition this week. Muse is the only thing giving them a run for their money.
album sales as a way to judge a band's success is so 1995.

So I can stop buying the album now?Nature drunk and High0

debuting at number one is great and all, but why are the numbers so low? according to their numbers, Backspacer will sell far less in its first week than Avocado did.Jam out with your clam out.0

Well, it's not that much more than Riot Act, and it was out for 2 extra days. Being limited to Target surely hurt some though, so we'll see how it sells going forward.
Self-Titled: 278,000
Binaural: 226,000
Backspacer: 175-200,000 (25-28,500 per day)
Riot Act: 166,000 (33,200 per day)1998: East Troy 2000: East Troy, Rosemont 2003: Champaign 2006: Chicago (UC), Milwaukee 2007: Chicago (Lolla) 2009: Chicago (UC), Chicago (UC) 2010: Noblesville 2011: East Troy (PJ20), East Troy (PJ20) 2013: Chicago (WF), Seattle 2014: St. Louis 2016: Chicago (WF), Chicago (WF) 2018: Chicago (WF), Chicago (WF) 2022: St. Louis 2023: Chicago (UC), Chicago (UC) 2024: Chicago (WF), Chicago (WF)2025: Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh0 -
10-Club sales will be included in the final Soundscan numbers.
This was also the case for the Ten Release a couple of months ago.0
