i dont get what the big deal about the speech was? Someone said that people have been saying MJ was angry and arrogant and just didnt come off well. I am just watching the speech right now, and he is crying and emotional and thanked Scottie Pippen. I dont get what the big deal is,

  • he made the greatest quote as well

I remember one game coming off the floor I scored like 20 points in a row to win the game, Tex reminded me that there's no "I" in TEAM, I looked back and said there's I in WIN, so which ever way you want it

Rick Reilly destroyed it......then again I hate Rick Reilly but it was better than anything I have read from him in a long time. He should have left his personal experience/grudges out of it thought. Kind of seemed like he had an agenda.

    Going to watch it now.

I didn't think it was that bad at all. It was a bit all about him and he was not incredibly gracious but I mean the guy got to where he was through his own hard work. Of course people helped him along the way but it kind of is all about him at that point.

I was the same way. Had read all this criticism about the speech, but when I finally watched it, I didn't find it that bad. There were certain parts that I would've left out, but it was HIS induction after all. To be the best in the world at something, you gotta have an ego and a chip on your shoulder. That's what drove him to the heights he reached.

I just wish he would've said what up to Dennis.
He floated back down 'cause he wanted to share, his key to the locks on the chains he saw everywhere.

Here's Reilly's review. A tad harsh, maybe, but not too far off IMO:

Agreed on all accounts. The guy was the best of his generation and one of the best ever and he knows it. There is nothing wrong with that.

That is the column I was talking about. Seems like he had a bit of an agenda as well, don't you think?

BTW, I have an agenda as well, I hate Reilly, prick gets paid $3mil a year to spit out 800 word cliche filled columns on a weekly basis. He is a joke.

there is something to be said for being humble when entering a hof.

i watched it live and was floored. if you want to see a good speach, go dig up jerry sloans. he is an all time great and was very classy.

Agreed, but not everyone is as humble and gracious as many think they should be. MJ is proud of his hard work and where it got him.

Pretty funny since much of what I read about Jerry Sloan says he is one of the biggest pricks alive

Definitely. This seems like a pissing contest between Reilly and Jordan to see who has the more massive ego. They both need to get over themselves.

    Reilly is a douchebag.

That was just MJ being MJ. Would people expect the best basketball player ever to not have an ego???

I dunno. But a better question might be would people expect someone from Chicago to be objective about this topic? :)

Who should have he thanked? He got kicked off his freshman team and the next day was the 1st person in the gym and the last person to leave, for the rest of his career.

Greatest male athlete of all time and I can't think of a person that would beat him out.

Very true. He could have taken a shit on the stage and I would have thought it was great.

Reilly wasn't the only one who had a problem with it:

  • He should have talked more about his teammates. He mentioned Pippen at the beginning (briefly) but I don't think he mentioned another throughout the entire speech.

In my opinion, you can talk shit and be arrogant as long as you back it up and MJ most certainly has.
