its obvious. he's gone to another place we can only listen to. the lyrics and writing are simply the best. he's the best singer/songwriter in the industry. there is no question.

    Agreed.

I was hanging out with a friend tonight and he has always said my obsession with PJ was a little overboard. He (like most people) was only really acquainted with Ten. I popped in Binaural and made a fan out of him with Nothing As It Seems, Of the Girl, Sleight of Hand, and Parting Ways.

It baffles my mind when people say that Pearl Jam "sucks"
  • ....or when they say "get out of the 90's" or "grunge is dead" or "are they still around?". Get out of the 90's. A more ignorant statement I could not make.

  • I work with a guy who listens to nickleback and david cook, and he makes fun of Pearl Jam when he hears me listening to them. He claims Eddie's vox sound like some kind of chant or Indian rain dance music.
It's actually pretty funny to hear him do the imitation, though it really sounds nothing like Ed. He just does to get on my nerves cause he knows Pearl Jam is one of the few things I'll get defensive about. I tell him his music is crap and he has no idea what rock and roll is. Good fun.
  • Pearl Jam/Eddie Vedder has changed my life.

    Pumped for Philly Shows.
A wave came crashing like a fist to the jaw
Delivered him wings, 'Hey, look at me now'
Arms wide open with the sea as his floor

HAHA the other day my dad was telling me how he used to follow Grateful Dead and was obsessed with them like how im obsessed with PJ and then my sister says "well both those bands suck"
dunno how u can think they suck but not meant for everyone i guess

the only song writer I'd put ahead of eV is Dylan, but that's quite a compliment to Ed. The lyrics on this album are simply unbelievable.

    Binaural is something else.

Those songs you listed are some of their best, most complex tunes

SOH and Of the Girl may be my favorites from their entire catalogue ... with Grievance up there

  • Eddie's lyrics on Backspacer are as good as they have been. It's his best lyrical work since Yield.
  • Just Phenomenal.
  • i thought he forgot how to write lyrics like this. the hamfisted lyrics of the last couple albums are history this time around.

I've gotten that with Scott Weiland. Whenever I mention STP's reunion a lot of people ask "Who is on vocals?" I'm sure it happens to people with Eddie/Pearl Jam too. Old Kurt created a stereotype.

  • Eddie is right up there with Jon Bon Jovi.
  • Speaking of being at another level talent wise, are there any Jeff Buckley fans here? I often wonder what he would have done had he lived. I think he was musical genious too. ;)
    Waves roll in my thoughts...

I thought the Avocado lyrics were pretty stellar, frankly.

If Backspacer beats Avocado in that department, then I just sprung a boner.
