  • Taking a bite of a burger, eyes on road. Drag of a smoke, eyes on road. Changing radio station or lighting smoke, eyes off road for maybe a second. Reading a text, while you can do the math. If they say it only takes a second to have an accident and people on here are comparing reading a text to the other stuff people do in a car just dosen't seem in the same ballpark. Like I stated earlier........Close your eyes for ten seconds while flying down the highway if you want to feel what it is like to text while driving.

Do you really think people look down for 10 seconds while typing on their phone? Come on. You say it only takes a second to cause an accident, well then we best ban the radios and smoking as well. And if you do enough "research", you can pretty much find a side you want for anything.

Yes. That is why their speed drops from 120 to 80 and they veer into/over the lines.

Absolutely, it happens here all the time on the Beltway in the DC/MD area. I can even tell the texters, they hold up our already horrid traffic situation by sitting there for 10 seconds or more texting. The only thing that interrupts them is a loud horn several times. They weave in and out of lanes and you watch and see some form of road rage with a life being taken is going to come from texting while driving.

No it shouldn't be. You can drive and eat, you can drive and drink, i'm talking non-alcoholic, you can drive and change the radio station, pick your nose, read a map, set your GPS, fix your hair, look at ads on the side of the road, try and get the hottie's attention in the car next to you ... Let people be FREE to do stupid shit. Let people have FREEDOM and less laws and government. It's bad enough here that you can legally ride a motor cycle without a helmet but you can get a ticket for not wearing a seat belt. Auto accidents will happen all the time. Having cops pull people over for texting is a waste of time. Just give the stupid people enjoying thier phones the finger like i do, or start screaming at them when you can. It's a new thing so people think it causes so many accidents. It's no worse than any of the stuff I mentioned above. Stupid people are going to make stupid choices. And I know this liberal world is all about choices, right???
Sure auto accidents will happen all the time, but the chances of you having an accident while you are driving along the road, not looking in front of you and paying attention while you text message, are a whole lot greater than you driving along the road and watching where you are going and taking care dont you think?

And you say 'let people be free to do stupid sit'. Fuck that. Would you still have the same attitude if it was one of your loved ones they kill or maim?

So if someone is eating a cheesburger or changing the radio station, and kills one of my loved ones, should I protest fast food eating while driving or radios in cars??? What's the difference? I think texting is pretty stupid to begin with. If it happens, it happens. We have enough problems to worry about than writing tickets for this.
If you need someone to explain the difference in concentration levels required, and time spent with eyes OFF the road, between eating a cheeseburger and sending a text, then i give up.
