    As long as it is not my car they are rearending, go ahead and text while you drive. Nothing like seeing people get thrown through their windshield because they are tools.

    I can't see any reason why they can't jam those phones while in a car that is in drive anyway.

It drives me Ape shit when Im standing in a checkout line somewhere and someone is talking on there phone when they are in front or behind me. One time I told this girl to say hello for me and she looked at me like I was nuts.

    You did hear about the person in NYC texting on the sidewalk and walked/fell into a manhole.

    I don't understand the deal with texting anyway, I text maybe once a month if that to only 2 people I know. My ex, a friend mainly because they texted me and the rest are somebody selling something. I'd rather talk to the person rather than get finger arthritis texting someone. Even with the large letters on the new Iphone.

    Is the purpose of texting to avoid talking to someone or what?

    I love it when I walk into a hotel lobby or dept store and they're signs NO Cellphones Please.

    No it shouldn't be. You can drive and eat, you can drive and drink, i'm talking non-alcoholic, you can drive and change the radio station, pick your nose, read a map, set your GPS, fix your hair, look at ads on the side of the road, try and get the hottie's attention in the car next to you ... Let people be FREE to do stupid shit. Let people have FREEDOM and less laws and government. It's bad enough here that you can legally ride a motor cycle without a helmet but you can get a ticket for not wearing a seat belt. Auto accidents will happen all the time. Having cops pull people over for texting is a waste of time. Just give the stupid people enjoying thier phones the finger like i do, or start screaming at them when you can. It's a new thing so people think it causes so many accidents. It's no worse than any of the stuff I mentioned above. Stupid people are going to make stupid choices. And I know this liberal world is all about choices, right???

    So if someone is driving while texting and they're driving all over the road and as you say accidents will happen are we then supposed to let that go?

    Sure auto accidents will happen all the time, but the chances of you having an accident while you are driving along the road, not looking in front of you and paying attention while you text message, are a whole lot greater than you driving along the road and watching where you are going and taking care dont you think?

    And you say 'let people be free to do stupid sit'. Fuck that. Would you still have the same attitude if it was one of your loved ones they kill or maim?

    Texting should definitely be banned. Just talking while driving has been banned here, unless you are using a headset to keep your hands free to drive. Duh. Personally, I wish they'd say that if you want to talk, pull off the road, period. Police had not really done a whole lot to stop people from picking up the cell phone and calling for a while. Recently, they had a crackdown on a weekend and hundreds of people were cited and fined $100 for a first offense, $200 for a second and so on. I am 100% for this and fully support the police and my city for finally doing something more than talking about it.

    Yes, it should be banned.
    Here in Australia it is illegal to talk whilst driving unless you are on hands free and I know plenty of people who have been pulled over and booked for talking whilst driving.

    The thing is though, where do you draw the line? I think it takes a great deal of concentration to drink a cup of coffee without spilling it all over yourself while you are driving. It takes concentration to flick through the radio stations or songs on your ipod, it takes concentration to eat and do your make-up or hair etc etc

    Technology will probably see the invention of a mobile phone that has an *incar* mode not dissimilar to the *inflight* mode, but tweaked to be used as hands free but with no txting or something to that effect. I don't know the answer, I just know I dont ever want my kids or anyone I love to be struck down by some wanker who thinks its more important to txt than watch the road.

    So if someone is eating a cheesburger or changing the radio station, and kills one of my loved ones, should I protest fast food eating while driving or radios in cars??? What's the difference? I think texting is pretty stupid to begin with. If it happens, it happens. We have enough problems to worry about than writing tickets for this.

    No I'm not saying that at all. They will get a ticket and whatever they deserve for causing an accident. Should we ban eating while driving? How about smoking while driving? If someone rams you in the ass b/c they aren't paying attention, are you going to be more upset if the say they were trying to light up a smoke or if they say they were texting? Either way, you're going to be pissed, give them an earful, and sue their insurance company. What I'm saying is that there are plenty of more things our police can be focusing on then this.

Is checking news headlines on CNN mobile illegal, but glancing at a newspaper front page that you just picked up legal?

    I think any use of the cell phone should be illegal while driving.

    Put another way, research shows texting while driving to be worse than driving drunk. So, if you're not going to ban texting while driving, you might as well legalize drunk driving.

    It would make as much sense.
