KoL and Pearl Jam...

It seems that with Pearl Jam's newest album (also the single), along with the Kings Of Leon's newest album, both are going for that more widespread audience, or so people say. Personally, I don't agree, but that's not the point. What it seems to come down is that the hardcore fans of Pearl Jam and KoL (There are more bands you could say, these are the bands I picked for this post) feel that by making a more commercially viable album, us diehard, manic, and downright obsessive fans will have to share our dear music loves with the uninitiated. I'm a diehard fan of both fans, and although I personally never felt this, I have to say that as much as I would love to see more attention given to Pearl Jam, and KoL, when I think about it, I don't want to share my love of these bands with "lesser" folk. Just wondering what other people's opinions are on this issue.

Just because Pearl Jam wrote a catchy song doesn't mean they have a sudden desire to become a worldwide pop sensation. They had their moment in the spotlight throughout most of the '90s.

Don't know if they are overrated. But if you've seen them in concert 1 time that is all you need. No connection w/ the audience and the same set list every night.

How are they overrated? There's nobody callin them the best band in the world. They ARE one of the most popular rock bands right now. There's really hardly anything on the radio as good as them, as well.

Dont judge their music based on SOF though check out Youth and Young Manhood and Aha Shake Heartbreak, I love OBTN but I know lots of people who are not crazy about that album, dont toss them aside based on one song though...

Hmm, never heard that...... My buddy who's a big AC/DC fans thinks he sounds like Bon Scott. I always thought he had a very rough southern rock type of voice.

    I guess it's all perception.

So does Bob Dylan, Stones, Neil Young and the Who. And last I checked, they are all pretty amazing bands. So, please don't compare KOL to Creed based on setlists. KOL are nothing like Creed, except being extreme drunks and jesus-freaks. KOL are more rocking, bluesy and most of all, 'real' unlike Creed. Before the KOL's latest album, they were essentially an indy band, who found international success with little help from radio/tv. I've been a fan of KOL from the start, and their first two albums are legendary in my opinion, even though they are very basic musically.

I'll admit it, I don't like how so many people have become KOL fans because of sex on fire and use somebody. Those are probably their worst two songs from their entire catalogue. But at the same time, with all this exposure and commercial success, it's a lot easier to get tickets to an arena gig, instead of a bar gig. So, am I happy and will be seeing KOL again in September!

Essentially, that was what I brought up in the first post. I do like SOF and Use Somebody, but I do think there are better songs. I personally think their first album might be the best. I agree with what you said, though.

I completely agree with you. Their new album is a great piece of work, but it's very different from what the band has done in the past.

As far as that "pop" comment about Pearl Jam that I made earlier, I was just kind of echoing what some people on the boards bring up. I personally don't feel that way at all, but it served to make a point.

I like kol but there MTV rock cover boys they've become annoys me. They're popular for their boy band looks and good music. They're the adult Jonas brothers.

    Let the arguement begin

ps mmj should be just as popular or more cause they're better
