LikeAnOcean wrote:I honestly don't think they even give new music a chance. They wait for it to be huge everywhere else in the country, then they decide to play it. Example Kings of Leon.. Thats their stab at being current. They should just start advertising themselves as a 90s alternative top hits station and be done with it.
I'm really liking bands like MGMT and you can't hear them on Chicago radio.. It sucks!
XRT has been playing MGMT for almost a year now... I know that they play music from a wide range of years (60's to today), but they do play alot of new music. Listen on Thursday for "New Music Thursdays". They have been playing alot off the new Wilco and Sonic Youth albums lately.
and I even heard "Of the Girl" on the way to work last week.

I gave up on Q101 the moment Ed told them it was not for them in 95
Exactly why I rarely listen to FM radio anymore....it sucks0 -
I think he was just upset about a billboard advertisement they used that said "This is not for you" and the irony of that.hrd2imgn wrote:I gave up on Q101 the moment Ed told them it was not for them in 95

Yeah but they play same 5 songs every freakin day. Unless you make a request or play "The Last Letter Game" that's only time you'll ever here something different.Lollapalooza 2007

Does anyone else in Chicago remember when Q101 used to do 'The Pearl Jam' back in the mid-nineties? I remember trying to capture it on cassette using the boom box I had back in the day just because they would usually play at least one live or rare track. Good times.

Q101 has definitely gotten progressively worse the past few years. I like the DJ Elektra who is on middays. She's a pretty big PJ fan and she knows her shit about music, but she cant control what she has to play. I usually stick with my ipod or sports radio in the car. XRT is pretty solid, but they can play some really weird shit at times.0

The irony of "the Pearl Jam" was that I started to really get into PJ after they stopped having "The Pearl Jam." I would love if there was a station that did that again.

If people wanted to hear The Fixer on the radio, stations would be playing it. That's how radio works. The stations who are playing it are showing respect to Pearl Jam...as they should. But besides the song sucking (in my opinion), the song doesn't fit in with the alternative rock station agenda like WWS did.2000: Camden 1, 2003: Philly, State College, Camden 1, MSG 2, Hershey, 2004: Reading, 2005: Philly, 2006: Camden 1, 2, East Rutherford 1, 2007: Lollapalooza, 2008: Camden 1, Washington D.C., MSG 1, 2, 2009: Philly 1, 2, 3, 4, 2010: Bristol, MSG 2, 2011: PJ20 1, 2, 2012: Made In America, 2013: Brooklyn 2, Philly 2, 2014: Denver, 2015: Global Citizen Festival, 2016: Philly 2, Fenway 1, 2018: Fenway 1, 2, 2021: Sea. I don't think it was a half an hour. If my memory serves me right it was 5 songs (maybe 4?) in a row. I remember that their competition at the time, Rock103.5 tried doing a Metallica block of songs shortly after that. You nailed the era, because I know it was around the time of vitalogy/merkinball/soldier field and it ended around no code. They would play some great live/rare stuff that was only found on overpriced boots at the time. Why go, Animal?

Rock 103.5 was the shit, much better than Q101. After Mancow left 103.5, that station went down the crapper. Too bad, Chicago could use a quality rock station.Chicago 6/29/98 - Nashville 8/17/00 - Cleveland 4/25/03- Chicago 6/18/03
