God, Q101 in Chicago sucks!

My little rant..

I looked at their playlist today (because I got tired of hearing the same 100 or so 90s songs all the time a few years back and can't stomach them anymore) and they've played pretty much every Pearl Jam song off the first three albums today.. and only played The Fixer once at 4 in the morning!

I think they only played it once or twice yesterday.

We seriously have no good alternative music stations in Chicago. We have some good classic rock ones, but if you want to hear new indie and alternative music its horrible. WXRT is the best thing, but they play a bit of everything respectable from the 60s to now. Their new mix is very slender.

As far as new music, there really is no good station here. I remember driving to Kansas City and Milwaukee recently and thinking how they had some decent stations. What the fuck is wrong with Chicago?!

we INDEED have THE worst radio in the country.
try some of the college stations if you can get them
    88.7 Lewis U
or DePaul ( I can't remember the dial location)
    or the UIC station
i personally think chicago radio was the reason the ipod was invented.

    Thanks! I'll look into it.

XRT is my favorite, but I want more NEW music.. Q101 is a bitch. They think playing Kings of Leon twice a day makes them a cutting edge station.. please. I HATE them.. its cool and all they are playing my favorites from high school, but that was 12+ years ago and I've moved on..

I honestly don't think they even give new music a chance. They wait for it to be huge everywhere else in the country, then they decide to play it. Example Kings of Leon.. Thats their stab at being current. They should just start advertising themselves as a 90s alternative top hits station and be done with it.

I'm really liking bands like MGMT and you can't hear them on Chicago radio.. It sucks!

Q101 has sucked since the late 90's. Make the switch to satelite. You hear new bands about 6 months earlier than Q101. If you must listen to FM, XRT is the best station in Chicago.
    Chicago 6/29/98 - Nashville 8/17/00 - Cleveland 4/25/03- Chicago 6/18/03

    Chicago 8/23/09 - St. Louis 5/4/10 - East Troy 9/3/11 - East Troy 9/4/11
    Minor League Park 7/19/13 - Milwaukee 10-20-14 - Bonnaroo 6/11/16

102.1 is the Milwaukee station you were listening to I bet. Half the staff are PJ fans so they play a good amount of PJ music. :)

I'm pretty sure I know one of the DJ's on there. Michelle? I worked with her for a few years in retail. She went on to DJ for Q101 for a bit. I haven't talked to her in years, but swear I heard her voice on the radio when driving through Milwaukee.. And yes, their station was better. More NEW music.

Q101 used to be good. I think around 2000 is when they started really sucking.

It's true, there really aren't any good Alternative Rock stations in Chicago. That's why I just stick to XM/Sirius when I can.

I can't really blame them for NOT playing The Fixer though.
    It's a pretty crappy tune.

Their morning show is pretty bad. They should have kept Mancow. I know he can be annoying, but he did some pretty funny stuff.

Besides revisiting the Ten Redux, I have listened to Vs. or Vitalogy in years, maybe even ten years.

I listen to albums to death and then move on. My brain constantly craves new frequencies to challenge it. The latest Pearl Jam album is always my favorite.

XRT has been playing MGMT for almost a year now... I know that they play music from a wide range of years (60's to today), but they do play alot of new music. Listen on Thursday for "New Music Thursdays". They have been playing alot off the new Wilco and Sonic Youth albums lately.

and I even heard "Of the Girl" on the way to work last week.

    Go Go White Sox!
