No. I'm sure Brendan O'Brien demands perfection out of everyone and will not settle for anything less than perfect from Eddie.

I don't think his voice was that big of a "problem" on the 06 tour, listening to the older songs he sounds great. I just listened to TREMOR CHRIST, ALONE and CROWN OF THORNS from the 06-tour and sounded great.

    But...

... the way he sings Life Wasted, WWS, Marker sounds so strained/forced and in my opinion bad. And it's the same on the album, so I'm guessing he want it to have a Raw/punkish sound but it doesn't work for me.

The little snippet of The Fixer I heard it sounds sort of like the strained singing on S/T. I don't like it.
I more like the way he sings the rock songs on Vitalogy. Poweful, angry, screaming but not strained/Winded etc.

But I think Eddie handles the older songs great so it's the style for the new songs I don't like. It was the factor, for me, that made S/T grow old really fast, too fast.

Too bad for you. This isnt '94 anymore. Progress. His voice sounds fine, it's fucking rock and roll. Not an opera.
  • He sounded great in Atlanta a couple of weeks ago...of course on a more mellow set...which I prefer.

    Hasn`t he quit smoking?
If he had quit, then he fell off the wagon when he lit up for "Story Time With Uncle Ed," at the first Tower Theatre show.

Hear, hear. Ed's voice is well seasoned.

I've posted this a few times and got a lot of flak for it.

In the last 3-4 years, Ed has struggled quite a bit vocally w/ PJ.
His solo shows seemed a little better, but those songs don't require a lot of range.

I do think he still has the best voice in rock, but him getting winded, pulling off the mic live, and really struggling to hit "higher" notes, and not being able to hold/sustain a note is very evident.

I think he should be able to do what he wants, but IMO the smoking has really done some damage.
I hate using examples, but look at Chris Cornell. He too was sounding rough for a while, he stopped smoking and he now sounds as good as he did in '92.

Damned right. Dylan and Neil Young have made about a thousand albums between them - almost all of which rock like a MF - and neither of them have hit a true note in their lives. If I wanted to listen to a voice that wasn't strained, I'd be a member of the Aguilera fan club.

Trust Ed, he'll know when his voice is gone. Then Pearl Jam will change their material to compensate.
we're all going to the same place...
