I downloaded offical boot from last night's show this morning and am listening to it right now. That would be sick if Pearl Jam did that this tour!

The problem with Phish's system, I find, is that they ONLY use soundboard sources, which gives their live bootlegs a relatively impersonal feel to them, void of any inkling of a live feel (close to zero crowd noise etc.). Pearl Jam, I believe, mixes in both mics placed in the crowd in various places, as well as their own soundboard sources. It makes it feel a lot more "real", but it takes longer to mix.Oxxys wrote:I downloaded offical boot from last night's show this morning and am listening to it right now. Word, that makes sense you can barely hear the crowd on the Fenway boot. (Phenomenal show by the way)Out of the Blue and Into the Black................Uncle Neil Philly 08 here I come!!!!0 -
I will be curious to see if there is a new bootleg system they are trying out for this tour- assuming and hoping that there will be boots...got a mind full of questions and a teacher in my soul...0

Yeah.. It's a bit of a bummer they only SBD - you'd think that as a hugely popular band with a following that loves the live shows, they'd work on getting better quality boots out there. I'm excited... driving down to Burgettstown, Pennsylvania later this month to see Phish for my first time. I'm not expecting a Pearl Jam-esque eye opening, but it should be a good time!Oxxys wrote:benjs wrote:

I agree with ben - I love phish (and VERY much enjoyed the live iphone broadcast last night). However with boots, I think PJ's definitely sound better in quality and richness. They are not rushed, and it IS a nice mix of sbd and mikes! It is cool to get the phish shows immediately though - but obviously the quality suffers.
Personally, I'm more willing to buy an official PJ boot than a Phish boot. I used to buy the Phish boots, but they do sound flat, or flatter to me than the audience recordings, and the quality over the years remains the same. I just hit etree or some other non-crappy torrent site for my Phish.
Plus I can't afford to buy every official recording by my two fav bands each year as it is, lol!
But I do think it would be a great idea for phish to start officially taping with mikes and mixing those recordings into the boots - they would sound better - and could probably still get them up with in 2-3 days. There is no doubt that is possible.
On another note, I'd like to see Phish create a similar fan club like the 10c...Post edited by DesignVHL on| valerie |

Phish may have gotten the idea from the (grateful) dead. They sold wristbands before each show - 125 I think, - and you picked up your copy 20 minutes after the show was over. Can you imagine the chaos if Pearl Jam did that! The poster lines would be a piece of cake in comparison..."I knew all the rules, but the rules did not know me. Guaranteed."

It would be relatively easy for PJ to include an audio "matrix" mix with audience mics.
I believe the problem is more that Venue A may need more bass into the speakers than Venue B, or less drums because there's enough natural acoustics, etc. Those differences would make their way onto the boots. The way PJ has done it is to have a completely separate mix just for the boots which has nothing to do with the mix which goes thru the PA system for the venue... which makes sense to me.Post edited by CJMST3K onADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you.

I was under the impression that Pearl Jam already does that - I was commenting on the fact that we wait longer for our bootlegs than Phish fans specifically for that reason.CJMST3K wrote:benjs wrote:

I edited my post. I believe because they have separate mixing boards for the separate needs requires a delay to accomplish the separate mixing. Would be nice to have immediate access though.ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you.

That stinks, I have a bunch of buddies coming into Philly for the show on Sunday but I will be in Vegas. Guess if I have to be somewhere that is an okay place to be but can't wait to see them again and it looks like I am going to have to wait till August now.0
