I can list probably 5-6 of my friends who are drummers (amateurs) that I would consider being better than Ringo.
I think had the Beatles not taken off when they did, I'm almost certain Ringo would have been out of a job...

And like others have said, Beatles songs don't take a highly technical drummer to play. He had a role and he did it. But I do think he was lucky to play with them because really anyone could have filled that role.

Your comment is very black and white but your not a million miles off the mark. most of their stuff was pop nonsense but Sgt. Pepper was amazing

Are you implying that the Beatles aren't some of the greatest musicians rock music has ever seen?

Yes I do not think they were as good as ppl make out, I fully understand the importance of the band but just dont feel they stand up against the true rock gods

True rock gods? As long as nobody refers to that overrated pile of screecherpoodle shite Led Zeppelin as superior to The Beatles in this thread, I'm happy. So what if John Bonham was a technically superior drummer to Ringo? He was banging along to self-indulgent, cod-piece-wearing, plagiaristic, hobbity wank from the planet Cock. Ringo was banging along to Tomorrow Never Knows.

What rock gods? They wipe the floor with the Stones and Floyd.

Now Zep and Hendrix are another story, but the Beatles aren't too far behind them as far as flat out great playing goes.
