Hopefully not to the grave though. I think that is the difference...with pets you are just about garanteed to have to deal with that at some point. With kids, hopefully, you die before they do.

Your friends who said that are wrong. You could substitute that to say "It's just a nephew get over it" or so on. People and pets that are part of our lives will be missed when they are gone. They are all significantly important, and many friends we have are of less importance than the pets we have.

You may want to consider another dog. Not as a replacement. But for your kindness to adopt to positively affect another dog, and to begin another relationship with another pet.

It's very sad that people and humans don't share the same lifespan.

If it makes you feel any better at all, I have a crazy parrot at home who's bitten thru my lip about 3 or 4 times, and other scars... and their lifespan is up to 80 years. ...maybe 40 years with the amount of ice cream I feed him. :)
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you. :)

Thats pretty funny about your parrot. Wow....80 years that is a long time. I volunteer my time with greyhounds when I can. When they come off the track they need to be washed, cleaned, and pick off all the fleas and ticks. On weekends we go to fairs and set up booths bring down like 15 dogs from other volunteers to bring awarness to them. We also hit petco's, petsmart, and stores like that. I aways bought my 2 dogs but yesterday I only had one and it sucked. Being around other dogs sucked too, especially ones that looked like Einstein. I am sure it will get easier but for now the sting is still there.

I'm so sorry and so sad for you and your family. You are doing the right thing. Quality of life for Einstein is what's important. Buy him a cheeseburger (or whatever his favourite meal is) and give him tons of hugs and kisses before you say good-bye. ((((HUGS)))) to you and your family.
I already felt bad for Einstein to begin with, but for some reason this post really brought me down. I couldn't imagine having to lose my dog.
    Thanks EPOTTSIII!
