I know this is not the forum for this but My rescue grayhound will be put to sleep tomorrow on my B-day. One of the greatest dogs in the world only 5 years old will be put down. Last two weeks he's been on/off limping but got severe last 2 days. Going into the vet we were hoping for a bad sprain on even a fracture.....and that sounds bad. When she came back with the xrays,he had bad bone cancer in his leg. Wow!!! that came from nowhere....of course we considered amputation but the vet said that it will show up somewhere else in his body and I am just buying myself a month or 2. How fuckin sad is that dog was running fine a week ago...dog just loves to run. Now will be gone. Einstein is a retired ex-grayhound racer didn't win may races but was ready to be put down soon after. A great organization L I G H T (Long island grayhound transfer) bought this beautiful dog into my life and don't regret a single day. I have another grayhound who is 15 years and still runs strong..... but what a shock.
Sorry for ranting just love my dog :(

I am so sorry Bro. My parents just put their Jack russell to sleep this past Saturday. She was alot older than your dog though. But yeah, it's really sad when you got to put dogs and cats down. They are part of the family and it is really hard. The thing I keep telling myself is that "We did what was best for the dog, and she is in peace and not living in pain anymore" She couldn't walk at all and was so bone skinny, no muscle mass at all anymore.
You are in my thoughts man.

It's terrible, I put 2 of my dogs down within months of each other. Have comfort knowing he will no longer suffer.

He will always be your dog.. nothing can change that.

I'm so sorry and so sad for you and your family. You are doing the right thing. Quality of life for Einstein is what's important. Buy him a cheeseburger (or whatever his favourite meal is) and give him tons of hugs and kisses before you say good-bye. ((((HUGS)))) to you and your family.

We just lost one of our golden retrievers about a month ago to cancer also, and it was very unexpected so I know what you are going through. I am really sorry for your loss, but take comfort in knowing you gave Einstein a great life.

man.. so sorry to hear this... it is great you take in greyhounds, they seem like such lovable dogs... a couple of guys down my alley adopt them and help prepare them for other homes and they have had like 9 in the last couple of years... i hope you get/got through your day and someday you're able to get another dog to help fill the space in your heart....

I am so sorry for you and your buddy! Losing an animal you love can sometimes be tougher than losing a loved person, just because a lot of people just can't understand how much you could love that animal!

You have to just keep reminding yourself that you gave Einstien the best life ever and did everything you can for him to have a happy life!

Be strong and you'll be in my thoughts, I'll be in your shoes soon enough, my baby is a st.bernard boxer mix and she's 12. She's my best friend, so I really feel for you! And I'm so sorry that this had to happen on your birthday, just keep Einstien's light with you for now and forever, you have an angel on your side now.
I am so sorry! Love be with you!

i am SO truly sorry for your loss and your beloved dog. it is such a special and unique bond between you and your dog...it's a beautiful and fleeting thing. cherish the time you had with him, consider the extra time in this world you gave him.....and know you are doing right by him by allowing him to cease, to not suffer. i've been there myself and it never gets easier...but the love and bond of a dog are totally worth every moment of pain in letting them go. good luck to you, much love to einstein......
    Stay with me...

Scott, I am so sorry to hear about Einstein and that you have to lose him at such a young age. I am sure that nobody could have loved him more than you did and he had a happy life because you adopted him and gave him a second chance. It's terrible that you have to let him go but you are doing the compassionate thing and sparing him from pain. I have been through the situation you're going through and it's never easy. You will be in my thoughts.
