I never said it wasn't. But Clapton plays the lead part.
I'm not sure if he's credited on newer releases of it, but nobody is listed in the record.
I'm not sure how crediting works when somebody just steps in to take a solo, but it's not a case where people found out Clapton played it after the Beatles had tried to play it off like George played the solo or anything similar.0 -
Macca in some of the later recording sessions would return to the studio at night and redo the drums, never telling Ringo, according to legend.
I think Ringo's personality eclipsed his skill level.
Its not to say he was a bad drummer, just average, and certainly skill wise eclipsed by many of his contemporaries (and don't sell Charlie Watts short) and most of today's successful drummers, including his son Zak, who is damn good. This weekend we rock Portland0 -

And if you open the song in 2 windows and play them at the same volume, but just 1/2 a second apart, it makes it better! Give it a try.
holy shit! so trippy.
told ya! it sounds trippy with regular stuff... and more so on that song.ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you.

George had played it few times to John and Paul and they typically didnt like it. He after a while asked Eric Clapton to play lead while he looked after rhythm and vocals. It was his original version that was used on the recent album "Love"0 -

funny you mention that. i was watching last night the Biography of The Who, and it looks like Keith Moon was involved in Zack's learning how to play drums. also according to wiki Keith bought Zack his first pro drumset. Zack became The Who's fourth drummer.ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you.

From what I've read, Zack idolized Keith Moon and it's very evident in the way he plays. I saw him with The Who years ago and he was crazy good -- perfect fit with Townshend, Daltry, and Entwistle!CJMST3K wrote:mookeywrench wrote:metsfan wrote:his son is a better drummer

As for Ringo, I think he was the perfect drummer for the Beatles. I'm not a drummer but I do think he gets somewhat of a bum rap for not being good and/or innovative. I can't source it now, but I have read sentiments from reputable people that Ringo is a lot better and innovative than generally credited. Also as mentioned before, McCartney being a control freak and subbing his drum tracks for Ringo's probably went a long way in perpetuating this way of thinking.<!-- Facebook Fan Badge START --><div style="width: 100%;"><div style="background: #3B5998;padding: 5px;"><img src="http://www.facebook.com/images/fb_logo_small.png" alt="Facebook"/><img src="http://badge.facebook.com/badge/147713062953.614141056.2133926001.png" alt="" width="0" height="0"/></div><div style="background: #EDEFF4;display: block;border-right: 1px solid #D8DFEA;border-bottom: 1px solid #D8DFEA;border-left: 1px solid #D8DFEA;margin: 0px;padding: 0px 0px 5px 0px;"><div style="background: #EDEFF4;display: block;padding: 5px;"><table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="0"><tr><td valign="top"><img src="http://www.facebook.com/images/icons/fbpage.gif" alt=""/></td><td valign="top"><p style="color: #808080;font-family: verdana;font-size: 11px;margin: 0px 0px 0px 0px;padding: 0px 8px 0px 8px;"><a href="http://www.facebook.com/donny.anderson3" title="Donny Anderson" target="_TOP" style="color: #3B5998;font-family: verdana;font-size: 11px;font-weight: normal;margin: 0px;padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px;text-decoration: none;">Donny Anderson</a> is a fan of</p></td></tr></table></div><div style="background: #FFFFFF;clear: both;display: block;margin: 0px;overflow: hidden;padding: 5px;"><table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="0"><tr><td valign="middle"><a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/Seattle-WA/All-Thats-Sacred/147713062953" title="All That's Sacred" target="_TOP" style="border: 0px;color: #3B5998;font-family: verdana;font-size: 12px;font-weight: bold;margin: 0px;padding: 0px;text-decoration: none;"><img src="http://www.facebook.com/profile/pic.php?oid=AAAAAwAgACAAAAAMe57NWURaItSTAkndkF9yqc7YLeudXUlRbmI8Zlgt-969scmCqdU_G75K8TUPm74XnrGy4aB9ajQkobWBvlZyhgM-q2b4ag6Rsz_-7m8GsQaFt3vc_HiYJNPN_5g-HvB-&size=square" style="border: 0px;margin: 0px;padding: 0px;" alt="All That's Sacred"/></a></td><td valign="middle" style="padding: 0px 8px 0px 8px;"><a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/Seattle-WA/All-Thats-Sacred/147713062953" title="All That's Sacred" target="_TOP" style="border: 0px;color: #3B5998;font-family: verdana;font-size: 12px;font-weight: bold;margin: 0px;padding: 0px;text-decoration: none;">All That's Sacred</a></td></tr></table></div></div><div style="display: block;float: right;margin: 0px;padding: 4px 0px 0px 0px;"><a href="http://www.facebook.com/facebook-widgets/fanbadges.php" title="Create your Fan Badge" target="_TOP" style="color: #3B5998;font-family: verdana;font-size: 11px;font-weight: none;margin: 0px;padding: 0px;text-decoration: none;">Create your Fan Badge</a></div></div><!-- Facebook Fan Badge END -->0 -
RACE THAT CANT BE WON wrote:i always hear people calling him the luckiest guy in the world to get and keep his gig with the beatles.
but is he really that bad?
i just watched the vh1 classic doc type thing on plastic ono band and they had the producer playing ringos fills and he was raving about him and how he never does the same fill..ever. then ringo elaborated and so forth about his art.
i mean lennon liked him enough to invite over to his solo album he must have some talent.
i am not a drummer so this is a genuine question.
his drumming never bothered me. not like they were crazy metal but ya know what i mean.
i was at a bar on the coast and a beatles song came on. this old man (possibly insane) started screaming how they had to bring in a studio in for some of the drum parts cause ringo couldnt hack it. is this true?
im just curious 8-)

Your comment is very black and white but your not a million miles off the mark. most of their stuff was pop nonsense but Sgt. Pepper was amazing0 -
I can list probably 5-6 of my friends who are drummers (amateurs) that I would consider being better than Ringo.
I think had the Beatles not taken off when they did, I'm almost certain Ringo would have been out of a job...
And like others have said, Beatles songs don't take a highly technical drummer to play. He had a role and he did it. But I do think he was lucky to play with them because really anyone could have filled that role.0 -

Yes I do not think they were as good as ppl make out, I fully understand the importance of the band but just dont feel they stand up against the true rock gods0 -
True rock gods? As long as nobody refers to that overrated pile of screecherpoodle shite Led Zeppelin as superior to The Beatles in this thread, I'm happy. So what if John Bonham was a technically superior drummer to Ringo? He was banging along to self-indulgent, cod-piece-wearing, plagiaristic, hobbity wank from the planet Cock. Ringo was banging along to Tomorrow Never Knows.

What rock gods? They wipe the floor with the Stones and Floyd.
Now Zep and Hendrix are another story, but the Beatles aren't too far behind them as far as flat out great playing goes.0
