what a shitty thing, always having to keep things spotless incase there is a showing. I'm a neat person...but far from perfect.

I know I'm in the minority, but what's wrong with keeping a house looking like that all the time?

My wife and I are experiencing the same thing right now. We found the house of our dreams and they accepted the offer but we can only get it on the condition that our house gets sold. We now have our house up for sale and only three weeks to sell it. Pressure is on and it sucks :( We're doing our best to make our house "barely lived in" but I totally agree, it's not easy!

It's also kinda strange coming home after a showing and knowing people you don't know have been in your house. This is my first house I'm selling so this feeling takes some getting used to.

Are you still bitching about this house cleaning thing!?!?!?!? :D

it does suck trying to live you're life in a house, but trying to keep it looking "lived in" but not "LIVED in".

i think you should tell ............ ah never mind. :)

dont mention houses.. we moved 2 months ago and my mum was just obsessed with keeping the house clean as there was an endless stream of people looking at our old house, sucked ass.

But all the packing and moving is about 99 times worse.. well only becuase we had too much stuff moved as we downsized :P

    good luck :D

Nothing wrong with it, it's just hard. You must be one of those natural neat types and/or germophobes ;) I've tried really hard to to be like that, but all it takes is one rough day at work and BLAMMO! Pigsty.

As I am cleaning my house today, please send your cleanliness-is-next-to-godliness vibes my way. :)

Not a germaphobe by any means.

I just have a routine for cleaning that I stick to with no exceptions. I know myself, and I know that once I start cheating or skipping it, pretty soon the house will need professional help. I'd rater spend 2-3 hours a week doing routine cleaning than basically burning the house down and starting over.

  • Figure how many times are you going to sell a house...

Once or twice maybe three times in your life on average.

    meh...so what...

Well it kinda sucks too because I don't want to sell it...we're getting divorced and neither of us can afford it alone.

good luck, hope you guys get more than what you paid for.

You have more discipline than I! I've got a handful of things left to do tonight and hopefully I'll be able to keep it up rather than let the cycle continue ... though, to be fair to myself, I got injured at work last month (head injury) and I had to take it easy for a bit.

Yours is the logical way ... I strive to be so Vulcan. Live long and prosper.

Great. Now I've gone and nerded shit up.

    Don't forget all this:

Give all family members assigned jobs in advance that will go into action when a short-notice showing is scheduled. Everyone must know their duties and carry them out, so that you don't end up banging into one another trying to get everything done quickly.

Open every window covering. All drapes, curtains and blinds should be positioned to let in maximum light. Buyers like a house to be "light and bright," so accommodate them! Turn on as many lights as possible.

Make sure the house smells good. Baking cookies, often recommended, may be overdoing it, but pet odors, smoke, or greasy cooking odors definitely will not work! Air out the house just before the scheduled showing, but close the windows (unless it is a perfect day) before they arrive.

Six very important words: no clutter, no clutter, no clutter!

Pay particular attention to the bathrooms and the kitchen. In the bathrooms, towels should be fresh and clean, sinks and baths scrubbed, and the floor freshly cleaned. In the kitchen, make sure all dishes are put away and countertops and sinks cleaned.

Check the thermostat to make sure that the house is at a comfortable temperature.

Remove pets from the house, or at least, keep them outside. Pets under foot will quickly put a damper on an otherwise positive showing.

Make sure Fact Sheets are available and easily accessible. (The dining room table is an ideal place for them).

If you are using an Agent, leave! If this is not possible, make yourself as inconspicuous as possible. If it is comfortable outside, go there until the buyers leave. If you are selling on your own, of course, you don't have this luxury. If this is the case, be as helpful as you can but don't crowd the buyers.

Make sure to hide family pictures or anything too personal, the potential buyer should be able to envision the home as their own.

    :p

I went thru the divorce/housing crap a couple years back, and have moved enough times to know this drill....Sorry to hear about your troubles.

I may be jumping the gun here... but yesterday I faxed over some signed paper work to the realtor and today she met with a couple who are interested. Apparently from what tid bits the ex tells me the house will be sold by the end of this week!!!

I am so ecstatic that it didn't go into foreclosure... and I'm so happy that another piece that holds us together will be gone!!
