I don't come around here much anymore...but thought I'd just say hello to the Philly peoples...It's fitting it's raining out. I think we all can feel for each other and what we're experiencing together. The guy was pretty much a part of our families. From the time I was a baby until this past summer, being on the beach down the shore will never be the same - let alone listening/watching any game for that matter. There was nothing better than listening to the Phils on the beach of North Wildwood with a mini cooler packed with High Life bottles resting next to my chair and a radio on the other side. Just shooting the shit with my buddies until we ran out of shit to talk about and then letting Harry take over, which inevitably ended with his somber tone usually rocking me to sleep in my chair looking at the ocean. Good times.
Today's been exponentially worse than I thought it would have been. Going to sleep to Comcast running non-stop reels and waking up to Mike & Mike coming on my clock radio talking for a good 45 minutes about the man. It's good to notice the appreciation he's getting the entire country over. David Montgomery was dead on by saying "we lost our voice."0 -
Anyone catch the special Channel 12 ran last night at 7:30 about Harry. I didn't get to post it because I only had time to set my dvr before going bowling but it was great.
It was crazy to learn during the special that the only reason that Kalas was hired was because the Phils got a new sponsor at the Vet - Schmidt's beer and demanded that the pitchman for the prior beer (Ballantine's) that sponsored the Phillies - Bill Campbell - be replaced.- Busted down the pretext

No I didn't see that Channel 12 Special but I remember years ago seeing a biography of Harry on something. It might have been something associated with the Tim McCarver show, I can't remember, but that's basically where I learned Harry's history of staring in Hawaii, going to Houston and coming here to Philly.
This is just so hard to fatham, Harry not calling games anymore.
And the fact that he called every single home run hit by Mike Schmidt is a feat in itself. That's fucking amazing.
It is fitting that it is a rainy dreary day here in Philly as the entire city is in mourning. It's unbeliveable how much one game can bring so much joy in October and then just blow you away wtih sadness 6 short months later.Don't come closer or I'll have to go0 -

I think Bill Conlin is an excellent writer but I can't stand the mofo. I grew up with his family and was once very close to both his daughter and his oldest son.
But I did enjoy his article about Harry today.Don't come closer or I'll have to go0 -

Yeah Conlin is usually hit and miss (more misses over his later years), but he always seems to shine during times like these...This is your notice that there is a problem with your signature. Please remove it.

I figure the bigger remembrance will be in August - that's when they honored Whitey and Harry bobblehead day and when they honored Harry for going to the hall, but you have to figure they will be doing something on Friday.- Busted down the pretext

Phillies tribute to Harry on Friday night set...
http://philadelphia.phillies.mlb.com/ne ... p&c_id=phi
Fans are urged to arrive early for the Friday, April 17 game when the Phillies play the San Diego Padres at 7:05 p.m. at Citizens Bank Park. It will be the first home game since Hall of Fame broadcaster Harry Kalas' death four days earlier.
The Phillies will honor their legendary voice prior to the game with several tributes:
The television booth in which Harry broadcast since Citizens Bank Park opened in 2004 will be named the Harry Kalas Broadcast Booth, "That ball's outta here!" A plaque will be hung to officially name the booth. The neighboring radio booth is named the Richie ("Whitey") Ashburn Broadcast Booth, "This game's easy, Harry."
The ceremonial first ball will be thrown by Harry's three sons, Todd, Brad and Kane.
Prior to the National Anthem, to be sung by Harry's son Kane, there will be a moment of silence.
All fans will receive an 8"x10" color photograph of Harry.
Harry's signature will be displayed on the field during the seven-game homestand beginning on Friday.
Also for the seven games, a black drape will appear in front of the Phillies radio and TV booths and the Phillies flag in Ashburn Alley will be hung at half-mast.
A video of Harry's career will be aired on PhanaVision.
During the seventh-inning stretch, a video of Harry singing "High Hopes" will be shown on PhanaVision. Fans will be encouraged to join in.
Other acknowledgements include:
During the first half-inning of the game televised by Comcast Network Philadelphia (formerly CN8), there will be no announcer commentary.
Throughout the remainder of the season, a billboard honoring Harry will be displayed on the outfield wall.
As previously announced, an HK patch will be worn on Phillies uniforms this season.
Throughout the 2009 season, following every Phillies home run, Harry's legendary "Outta Here!" home run call will be played over the PA system as the Liberty Bell lights up.
Hope the HIgh Hopes during the 7th inning stretch becomes a mainstay.. although wouldn't be alot of dry eyes in the house afterwards....This is your notice that there is a problem with your signature. Please remove it.
