Riot Act is a great album I suppose, but I don't find it to be very interesting listen. The reason I fell in love with pj was their ability to be soulfull, yet hard rocking at the same time. The last few albums have offered little of this unfortunately. Into the Wild has eddie more inspired, and I am interested to see how that album influences the next pj album. Alot depends on what Eddie does imo.

    my list

    1. vs
    2. ten
    3. no code
    4. vitalogy
    5. binaural
    6. yield
    7. riot act
    8. pj

Riot Act does does a few things right though, namely can't keep, all or none & you are. Bushleaguer had a great medody, shame george w. sealed its fate. Could have been a great song!

All things considered, probably my least favorite Pearl Jam album. Still better than most everything else out there, but aside from a few songs it just hasn't ever resonated with me like other PJ stuff has.

Vs will always be my favorite. I could power my house for years with all the energy in that record. No Code was the only record that took me awhile to warm up to. Came out in what, August/September 96? November of that year I listened to the Checkpoint Charlie show on the radio and I became a fan of No Code.

As far as Riot Act goes, I think its a solid record. LBC is my favorite off that one.

Totally agree, don't get why it has so much hate.

as a fan of the 'early stuff' i can totally see why haters hate on poor RA, but don't agree with them. pearl jam has grown musically and i just love being able to be around for the changes.

    I agree.

Riot Act is my favorite. I think the songs flow perfectly and I think the lyrics are the best of all albums. I think anyone who lists this one low on their list really should give it another try. Smoke a fatty, turn out the lights and listen carefully. When you get to You Are I promise you will have an out of body experience.

Can't Keep - the song is so beautiful and so perfectly true.
Save You - powerful. If you have lived through this situation you get a different feeling I'm sure.
Love Boat Captain - "hold me and make it the truth" "constant recoil, sometimes life wont leave you alone" The increasing intensity gives me goose bumps.
Cropduster - "I was a fool because I thought the world...turns out the world thought me" Ed brings life and death up close and makes it ok.
Ghost - Here is a song that is Ament at his best.
I am mine - "I know I was born and I know I'll die...the inbetween is mine" This is a pj classic.
Get Right - Matt's contribution is awesomely simple and strong.
Green Disease - G.R.E.E.D. great live song.
All or None - perfect closer

    This is my favorite album.

    Thanks for this Pearl Jam!!
    I found my place......and it's alright

Riot Act is great. It's a perfect example of the unsuspected turns PJ tends to take, which keep me hanging on..

I love Riot Act, it took a few listens to grow on me, but it is definately in my top 3 PJ albums. 1st is Yield, and the 2nd and 3rd spots go back and forth between No Code and Riot Act. So many great songs on RA. When I came home for my dad's funeral in December Thumbing My Way was the song playing as the plane touched down, and that became my go to song over the course of his wake, funeral and mourning process.

I always liked it. It was actually the first PJ album I bought and listened to where everything was completely new to me. (knew ten-vitalogy before it) For some reason I tend to buy the newest albums by artists, something about it being new to me makes me want it more.

from the first listen I liked it. but if I like a band, I will pretty much like whatever they throw at me regardless. (unless they pull a chris cornell haha)

we are all a bunch of PJ freaks here, eh?

if they ever recorded shit crap then I would quit it

    all has been excellent IMHO

i attended one RA tour concert. shame on me.

but it was KC in the rain and PJ played this mess -

    06/12/03

set: Release, Breakerfall, Brain Of J., Get Right, Ghost, Immortality, Whipping, Not For You, Off He Goes, Help Help, 1/2 Full, MFC, You Are, Better Man, Save You
enc 1: Go, Corduroy, Glorified G, Even Flow, Alive
enc 2: Fuckin’ Up, Baba O’Riley

6 RA tracks and 5 Vitalogy tracks and "Hi Dad"
Down the street you can hear her scream youre a disgrace
As she slams the door in his drunken face
    And now he stands outside
And all the neighbours start to gossip and drool
He cries oh, girl you must be mad,
What happened to the sweet love you and me had?
Against the door he leans and starts a scene,
And his tears fall and burn the garden green

Riot Act is a good album, I would not say great. A solid effort. An album that took me years to really appreciate. I don't listen to it hat much though. I could say the same for Binaural as well though.

It really depends on what mood Im in. It feels like their most chillout album to me. Some of their best experimental stuff is on this. You Are is just great and 1/2 Full is amazing live. It's somewhere around the middle for me, but the top guys always shift and change

agree. i think it's a beautiful album. it may not have many "hard" songs like in other albums, but i think that's the whole point of the album. somber time in american history, somber album.
