How Tweet it is: Life's great passages Twitter-fied
From the Bard to Beyonce, we re-imagine their works of genius reduced to 140 characters.

In case you hadn’t noticed, Twitter is taking over the world.
In the past couple of months, the 3-year-old microblogging service has gone mainstream, embraced by the establishment and media. Twitter, for better or worse, seems to be here to stay.
In case you don’t know how Twitter works, here’s a quick tutorial: the user (you), publishes updates and random thoughts, allowing friends (and any interested bystanders) to know what you are doing and thinking right this minute. These posts are called tweets — but don’t think that makes them too adorable to be taken seriously. Because tweeting is power. Where we used to be able to bore just our friends and family, now we can bore the whole world with the minutiae of our lives.
But here’s the catch: You have to be brief. Twitter allows only 140 characters for our thoughts.
In a world where even John McCain is tweeting his meetings (twitter.com/SenJohnMcCain), this means we’d better get used to condensing our thoughts to 140 characters.
Text messaging has trained us alrdy to abbrvte in awkwrd ways, cutting out vwls when ncssry. And MySpace and Facebook taught us to believe that everything we think and feel is very important and needs to be shared with the universe. Twitter, then, is the next evolutionary step, the natural combination of all that informal chatter and Internet-based narcissism.
It seems that eventually, we’re all going to be communicating every thought through spontaneous bursts of semiliterate language, 140 characters at a time.
This will require practice. Those who are accustomed to proper punctuation and careful wording, who like the way a complete sentence looks and feels, are simply going to have to get over it. Just tweet & move on, ppl. Tweet & move on.
So. To prepare for the future, we’re turning to the past, to some of the most famous, elegant passages in the English language — and, OK, some really long pop songs — into tweets. When Twitter finally takes over the world, an era of short and tweet talk may lie ahead.

Delukin explained it really well
It can be useful, depending what you want to do with it. I've been on for about 2 years.
Since I edit a car blog I twitter about what cars I'm driving which days. And other car news. Followers are mostly car buffs and PR/social media types.
It sure doesn't generate much traffic to my site but I'd hope builds some brand recognition.
On the other hand if you follow certain people it is a powerful news gathering service. I get news of interest MUCH faster on Twitter vs. RSS, websites etc.
The celebrity thing is interesting and Dave Navarro has even replied to some of my posts. He has a Dodge Challenger SRT8 btw.
I think it's actually less impressive as a social networking tool and much more impressive as a newsgathering and entertainment tool.
In an interesting side note, Demi Moore and Aston Kutcher are actually a bit groundbreaking on it. It really could kill the paparazzi and celeb magazines and sites like TMZ if you're into that stuff. Plus it seems actors and musicians have a LOT of free time on their hands.New screenname for the new site. At least for now. Previously Lackofdave

That was actually pretty funny as most things from Shaq are. That being said, I'm a facebook kind of guy. More than two status updates per day is a little excessive, which is what Twitter is in my opinion.
exactly! Plus, I don't think anyone cares THAT much what I'm doing alllllll the time :-)
although, the new Facebook format is kinda like Twitter.Need a tour Travel Agent??? Pick me :-)

I don't think that's a coincidence. I remember when facebook began getting more people on it, my space began having features such as the status update.Reading 2004

I like twitter. I've been on since last year. Its like blogging lite. I can't be bothered with facebook or myspace, but I can come up with 140 characters every so often, and if you pick who you follow carefully, its a nice addition to life. All this week the comic strip Doonesbury (yeah, I'm an old hippie, I still read it) has been making fun of Twitter. Today's panel pretty much summed it up:"The stars are all connected to the brain."0

I don't see what the difference is in Twitter and the whole 'status' thing on Myspace and Facebook.

i resisted twitter for the longest time (as i do most technologies lol), didn't get the point of it at all. but apparently it is a good marketing tool so i broke down and gave in. even made a blog too (http://b-drawn.blogspot.com) ....i'm cruising into the 21st century at the speed of sound, yep0

It's only a waste of time if you constantly use it as a status update machine. It's really fun and informative if you follow the right people - comedians you like, celebrities you want to keep up with, news sites you follow, that kind of thing. Plus, when you have a good one liner and there's no one around, you can immortalise it on twitter. 8-)Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.0
