i really cant stand happy music, i just dont get it. depressed music seems more sincere to me. if youre all happy with a girl, then be with her dont write some song about how great she is, tell her. but if she broke your heart youre home alone what else is there to do but talk to your guitar? you cant tell her, cause she doesnt care, its her fault. so you write a song. that makes sense to me.0

I guess I do listen to a lot of depressing music not that i would characterize it as such. I just think it's realistic. These cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.0

I would argue that Pearl Jam has some pretty depressing music at times. Sure, they turn a lot of that stuff into positives. Or there is a thread of positivity in an otherwise negative song (Daughter). I think that is really what made them unique in the "grunge" (hate that word) era. If AIC had written RVM then the guy woudn't have driven away at the end, or if he did, he would have hit a bridge abutment somewhere along the way.
They are not on the same level as Nirvana, AIC, etc., but they do have some pretty downer songs that aren't positive at all.DAL-7/5/98,10/17/00,6/9/03,11/15/13

Why listen to realistic music? Personally, I use music as an escape of everyday life
lol..that's the best i can describe it. I listen to the smiths and morrissey a lot and i know people think it's depressing as hell. I just think he sees things as they really are. But yeah Im sure I am jaded :PThese cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.0 -

i've been revisiting Elliott Smith lately. many would describe his music as dark & depressing...it's painfully clear that he was battling his demons. he's easily one of my favorite songwriters of all time...but i can only take his music in doses. i listen to it for a few weeks of and on & then take a break.
whether it's happy or sad isn't the issue for me. as long as it feels/sounds honest, i'm ok with it.I LOVE MUSIC.

After a break-up in a relationship, I refuse to listen to love songs, or depressing music. It intensifies the negative feelings. My dad once pointed out to me that 90% of songs are about love and break ups. Big money in that shite. Also, we have a station here that does a few hours show that is all about love and lonliness and just plain sad. I wonder how many suicides happen from listening to that show after a break up.
That's the best advice I can give someone about sadness after a break up, "don't listen to the radio", especially while driving by yourself. You end up crying and can't see to drive.
The reason my dad told me about the love song thing was cuz I was sad over a break up and he was pointing out that I'm not the only one who has or will suffer from a broken heart, cuz 90% of songs are for that audience, so there is big money in it cuz there are lots of broken hearts.
Yep, most of will have our hearts broken, often morew than once.
Stay away from love songs, or depressing songs, when this happens and you will get thru easier.Save room for dessert!0 -

Lately I have been listening to alot more positive (hippie) music. I find it much more enjoyable just chillin out blasting some Phish, Tea Leaf Green, Sky Blue Sky, or just about anything from PJ. I just cant do depressing music anymore. I used to listen to AIC all the time, not anymore. Anyone else find it hard to listen to that type of stuff.
Seriously, wouldn't you rahter listen to something that makes you happy, and not sad?
Dude, throw in some Poison & Dokken! It's warming & getting nicer every day.Do you remember Rock & Roll Radio?0
