DRUG TEST QUESTION

Thing is, if somebodys abusing drugs, it WILL be obvious to the employer. If it's not obvious and they're still able to function (doesn't our body become immune to these things after a while?) like a non-addict, well it's no problem to the employer.mickeyrat wrote:No , we don't have that OTC here. Back in the mid to late 70's Codiene was pulled from any OTC medicine. Seems us "bigger, better, more Yanks" were found to be ABUSING such OTC meds , mostly high school kids.some even younger. Became a pretty cheap high. Reached a point in the last 10 years or so if an OTC cold medicine has psuedoephidrine in it the Pharms will limit a customer to 1 package , as these cold medications are used to create Methamphetamine.Takes alot of this , as well as some pretty dangerous stuff as well.
If it can be abused , we'll find a way to do it!!!
It's limited to 1 pack per customer here too.The Astoria??? Orgazmic!
Verona??? it's all surmountable
Dublin 23.08.06 "The beauty of Ireland, right there!"

I'm just going to agree to to disagree with you right now since I work in a position with involves NO heavy lifting or equipment but could potentially kill every person I work with as well as affect people in the area, if someone was not in their right mind while on the job. The company has a responsibility to its workers as well as the community to provide a safe work environment.
It's companies who perform drug tests even though the job could be performed by a blindfolded junky that I don't get. If you're doing work where you can't kill anyone no matter how hard you try, they should never be allowed demand a drug test. They take a little more all the time and I'm just wondering where it will end regarding employers being involved in your personal life. Once you behave like a model citizen for those 8 hours a day, whatever you do for the other 16 should be up to you.
Ummm well if Jeagler is an accountant or, as I think his position is, dealing with mortgages, he can't kill anyone directly BUT by being under the influence at his job, he can screw people out of house and home or a lifetime's worth of saving, just because he screwed up a few numbers. Or he could release sensitive info about people that should be kept private. Now according to you, that's all well and good because no one was killed and I would strongly disagree with that. This is your notice that there is a problem with your signature. Please remove it.

helen--my job will require me to advise people what to do with their money, ei: refinancing their homes and stuff. blindfolded junkies need not apply! so i dont have a problem with taking a drug test.
the thing that bother's me is it seems like its the the aforementioned junkies who know all the tricks to passing these tests and guys like me end up getting screwed for taking their girlfriends cough medicine! doh! lolwww.myspace.com0 -

lol..yeah that is shitty luck..I think people who take drugs on a regular basis need to know all the ins and outs of tricking a drug test. Seems like too much work to me. :P and then i know people who do are perpetually out of work and claim drugs aren't effecting negatively. :?Post edited by libragirl onThese cuts are leaving creases. Dude- if you lived in your parents basement and smoked up all day, you'd have time to search the internet for every masking agent and trick to beating drug tests too..

ive worked in clinics over the years, and have a friend that is straight-up addicted to the OTC codeine...it can affect people quite badly. on the other hand, sometimes its not obvious at all. we have a few people (minority) who are even on methadone that have great jobs - its not always as obvious as you think. even something as small as Codeine can be a sign that theyre on other stuff too...(good thing Jeagler was clear on the rest of the test eh??)
my point is if you were employing people, you'd probably think totally differently. you're letting them under your roof, paying them, and of course you'd want to know!! employers have rights & responsibilities too!0 -

So if somebody used to be a heroin addict and they're using codeine to help them get over it, that's a problem??? Can a former addict not be a good worker?chromiam wrote:
It is regulated as a controlled substance in the US, which means in most cases it has to be prescribed. You do realize that is used to hide the withdrawl symptoms of heroin right??? Sounds like a good reason to test and ask for an explanation of why it is in someone's system. And I'm pretty sure that the Jeagler was asked to declare any prescription medicines which he was taking before having the drug test administered. So if anything he had taken had codeine in it, there wouldn't have been much of a question.
I just think it's disgusting how much entitlement companies have to our bodies and our personal lives. Once you can do the job, it should be none of their business. I asked if the job requires operating heavy machinery cos I can see why that MIGHT be an issue... but otherwise once a person displays they can do the job, it's not their RIGHT!
Why shouldn't a company be able to protect itself from the problems involved with employees who abuse drugs or alcohol? Most companies also run credit checks/background checks for possible employees to make help lessen the risk of hiring someone who may one day steal from or cause problems at the company.
P.s.
This is not a shot at jeagler0 -
