Anyone give anything up this year?

I'm going with something I gave up a few years ago - fast food.

Had my last cheese steak last night at 10:45 after going to a Fat Tuesday party.

    haven't seriously thought about giving anything up this year... maybe I'll give up the church for 40 days and see how that works out. I mean it's not like I really participate much now anyway, but always feel that catholic guilt around the holidays :)

    I'm strictly a holiday catholic, but for some reason I always still give something up for Lent every year.

    I think Catholics do guilt better than just about ANYBODY!
    For example I could not bring myself to spell Catholic with a lower case in this post! :lol:

    Ash Wednesday has to be one of the creepiest religious observance traditions ever. It's so weird to see otherwise normal people walking around marked with smeared ashes on their foreheads like cult zombies.

    what's even creepier is holy week in spain, some towns have the processions wearing black robes and hoods. eek!

    the creepiness and ritual is something that kinda appealed to me growing up though. had to find something fun out of the whole ordeal lol

    only church trouble i got into was wanting an extra wafer when i had first communion cuz it was tasty. nun hella shut me down.....damn penguin!

    i don't think i'm giving anything up for lent, i haven't for a long time. i'm a holiday catholic, i just go to mass a few times a year so my mom doesn't freak out and think i'm damned. even though i probably already am. whoops lol

    Gotta love the nuns. Me and the church parted ways a long time ago. I'm not even a holiday catholic, I'm a "go when I'm visiting home and my mom really wants the whole family together" kinda guy.

    I first learned about Filipino Holy Week customs when I was a kid and remember thinking "How on earth do they allow people to do that to themselves?!" :o And why would anyone want to? :shock:

    Reminds me of my best friend telling me several years ago that she was really glad she'd gotten to know me because up until then she'd thought all Catholics were really weird. I said, "But Jane, Catholics ARE really weird!" :lol:

    I don't know what to give up...I usually stick with the not eating meat on Fridays. But Im not a very good catholic overall.

    I am what you call Catholic-lite, Catholic Without the Guilt, Second String Catholic - Episcopal. :D but since I don't practice, I am not giving up anything for Lent and will probably be headed straight to hell. In fact, I believe I have a one way ticket already booked. ;)
    believe it or not, we don't "need" anything. that is only the spoiled brat in us trying to fill some temporary solution to an emptyness that does not exist.
