The new version of Porch is amazing!!!! Balls to the wall and freaking intense! Brother though, I do wish they had kept all the nuances in the version available on the interwebs, and I miss the two spoken words part, the one at the beginning and the one at the end.

not sure what made them go with this revised version.........i would have absolutely loved the old one if it was just cleaned up w/ better sound quality. This new version is still good and awesome to have, but I am a little baffled on the decision that was made.

I hope they don't change anything on Just a Girl........i am dying to have a high quality version of this song

I think the connection I have isn't or something... I'm not all that excited about it. Can't wait for the Vinyl. Then we'll really be able to tell if it sounds that much better.

Porch sounds great. I'm a little disappointed with Brother. Sounds like Ed's vocals were re-recorded. I guess I'm just used to the demo version...

Was excited for the re-issue initially for all the goodies that came with the Super Deluxe Edition. Now I just wanna hear TEN re-mixed! Sounds so gooood! Brendan has definitely breathed some new life into that album. Job well done.

I was real tentative on the "new "versions as I really dig the reverb of the original, but theses remixes are killer.

I think that's my favorite part about new Porch... hearing the bassline. It's a thing of beauty.

As for the reverb, all I can say is thank God it's mixed out mostly. I think the reverb was the #1 thing that kept me from actually popping Ten into the CD player for I don't know how many years. Getting rid of that is what lets the rest of the music pop out. It was all awash in echo-echo-cho-o-o-o before.

    I am pumped!

probably I'm deaf. Or have really bad quality headphones at work, but, as I rewmember original sound of Porch, I don't hear differences between these two versions.

I feel like an alien :(

To be truthful, after listening to the remix version, I decided to go back and listen to the old version. I expected night and day. There was no night and day... more like dawn and day, I guess.

Still, there are riffs, notes, and nuances in the remix version that pop more than in the original. I expected them to be missing from the original, but most aren't. They're just overpowered in the original, and not so much in the remix.

    Edit:

Just listen to the remix Porch again, near the beginning. I'm not a musician in any sense, so forgive my 3rd grade descriptions, but about 8 seconds in, listen to the long bass notes. They clearly sound plucked... you can hear the sound clearly when they start. Now listen to the original Ten version. Those notes just sorta appear... the plucking is drowned out by the reverb or mixed down and de-emphasized. I don't remember exactly, b/c I don't have it with me now, but that's just one of the nuances.

Each instrument is more clear, more pronounced. Makes it sound more live and real.

outstanding! the intensity is reminiscent of days gone by.

    quite the tantalizing treat,
can't wait to hear the whole album.

TEN kicks ass, and it always will...in any form.

Porch just kicked me in the ass.

Ten has always been my least favourite album, partly because it sounded over-produced and dated. This remixed version gives it the power it always needed. It feels live, raw, intense, gritty, and real. I feel like I'm actually hearing Pearl Jam play the song. Immense.

The speakers I have make the guitar sound too shrill and there's not enough support on the bottom (I like a warm bass) for me.

I'll wait to hear it on my stereo with the vinyl before I decide I guess.

I like the grittiness of the remixed songs I've heard so far. On the "new" Porch, the polish was taken off to the point that I can actually hear some sick sonic guitar interplay between Stone and Mike in the breakdown part near the end of the song. Simply amazing!

Maybe it's just me, but I was unable for whatever reason to listen to Brother or Porch on the RS website. If anyone else is having problems, the direct mp3 links are as follows:

Mods - I hope these links are okay with you, as they're just the sound files the flash videos are supposed to play. If that's not okay, please feel free to delete this post.

Interestingly enough, I sent the links to a coworker who is more of a casual fan, and he said he preferred the original, saying "I liked the reverb, and what's with all that guitar noise at the end?"

    Poor fool.

    Edit:

And he's an effing guitar player!

I really appreciate You found time to write it. Now, when i'm home I can compare these 2 versions. You were right.
I found that maybe it's my opinion, but in the end drums is more flatten in new Porch. And all drums section is more dirty, i feel, like from old scratch tape. Or maybe it's because in compressed file?

BTW. I like this new version because it sounds "more Pearl Jam", but original Ten had this tune - because of the echo - I always felt a space listening it

Yesss, I feel the same. That was what i mean saying flat drums. And bass too. And yes, guitar in one moment (2min.2 sec)is too high and shrill.
I guess it might be the compression of file (mp3) or maybe - this thing about changing recording in 2000year (about frequency). original porch was more deeply, though not so clear

Yah, I know what you're all talking about with the new version sounding a little... off... in some places. Could sound deeper/richer... but I was attributing that to the "stream over the internet mp3" factor.

Hopefully we will be gently kissed with more richness on the real thing. :D

My only wish is - I hope They didn't touch too much Garden. I can't immagine this song would sound better than it is on original album.
But I might be wrong. The Guys are masters, I didn't like the idea of whole re-issue Their first album, and now I am nicely surpriced. So - if They did Garden better than it was - i will have to fall to my knees.

Listening to this, the richness of the sound, I'm inclined to grab a super deluxe for the vinyl.
