Can we call Pearl Jam a supergroup of sorts?

I mean, you have members of Mother Love Bone and Soundgarden, after all. I was just randomly thinking of this on a bus ride yesterday, and wanted to know if I'm crazy or not.
Thanks EPOTTSIII!

I would say no, but here is the "definition". :D

i would say temple of the dog was a supergroup...kinda like our generations version of blind faith...just one amazing album, a couple of shows, and then NOTHING. but its ok. PJ turned out alright.

I would agree on TOTD. But as you said PJ is just perfect. ;)

actually i'd like to retract that..

if lets say.. stone had been in brad before pearl jam and jeff in three fish, ved doing stuff, mike in mad season they would be .. i guess matt cameron kind of makes them a super group now that i think about it. No wonder he is mancrushable...

Too many bands from the olden days formed with members from other bands. Let's not get into that debate.

I mean, when you look at 'Wings,' if you do your research, you'll find out that Paul McCartney was in a band called 'The Beatles.' Furthermore, we wouldn't have Sting, if a little band called the Police hadn't disbanded and moved on.

    It's all relative people.

Definately, but I feel Mad Season is even more of a supergroup as there were members from three big bands coming together; Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains and Screaming Trees. TOTD had only two (pj & soundgarden)

I'll give the nod to Mad Season as they are pretty comparable. Both had one album and did a few shows, done.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Krusen join Candlebox a few years later in the mid-90's?

You can add Candlebox to this Six Degrees of Pearl Jam game.

pj certainly is not a supergroup. cameron joined pj. members of pj did not join cameron to form some other great band. it's not like the members of pj ever disbanded. they just change drummers frequently. (although, they have kept this one for more than ten+ years, which is longer than all of the others combined.)

Am I the only one who´s having a tough time listening to Mother Love Bone or TOTD or even Mad Season?
I mean it´s not awful music but it´s no way near as bone chilling as PJ is imo....

You're not alone. I love Mad Season because I love Layne Staley's voice, as well as Mark Lanegan's, and Mike's guitar playing is sick.

But Mother Love Bone is just a glam metal band no different from a dozen other 80s bands that people around here love to hate and TotD is a cool concept, but the album is rather underwhelming. Aside from the first 3 tracks, it's pretty boring. Would have made a better EP I think. But then, I've never been a huge Cornell fan.

No. If the bands they were in were popular and then PJ was formed than maybe, but the bands they were in became popular because of PJ.

    Velvet Revolver is a supergroup.

    This is a supergroup.

Layne Staley´s voice IS amazing.......And so is Mike´s guitar playing....
Still I like them best when in AIC/Pearl Jam...

Mother Love Bone and TOTD sound really dated to me now........

I do not consider Pearl Jam a supergroup. When I think of supergroups I think of bands like Mad Season and The Traveling Wilburys.

    Pearl Jam isn't a supergroup.

TOTD wasn't a supergroup. They made a tribute album before 99% of people knew who any of them were.
