3 - 3 1/2 years between records becoming the norm?
If you look back, PJ was pumping out records around every 2 years. It starting getting a little longer between Yield and Binaural and then, Riot Act. PJ was a 3 and 1/2 year wait, the longest so far. It we have to wait 3 1/2 years for this one, we are waiting until the late Fall, I hope not, but if that is what they need to get a record they like out, so be it. Can't wait.

It seems that everyone in the band has been doing their own thing between PJ and this new album. Everyone but MIke has put out new music and he has been playing shows with Shadow. I think they took their time to enjoy thier families and recharge their batteries before getting into the Pearl Jam mode. Whatever the wait is I'm sure it will be worth it.Don't it make you smile?0

I'm sure it will be worth the wait, but its KILLLIN ME!Out of the Blue and Into the Black................Uncle Neil Philly 08 here I come!!!!0

They can afford to take the time off between albums and tours now. I don't blame them. I hope it helps extend their careers. Most bands at this point in the careers take more time between albums.DAL-7/5/98,10/17/00,6/9/03,11/15/13

I can wait cause I know it'll be worth it.....at least the band is still going strong unlike many of their early 90's counterparts!!.......we are very fortunateToronto-96/Barrie-98/Pittsburgh-00/Toronto-00/Buffalo-03/Toronto-03/Kitchener-05/Toronto-05/Hamilton-05/Toronto I-06/Toronto 2-06/E.V. they are in their mid 40's. It really isn't that surprising. TBH I think this is going to be their "last" album and then years down the road, just one more album as their "old fart comeback album" (like the who did)
Im sure they will keep touring for years, just no new music after this one.
I hope im wrong, but I wouldn't be surprised.5/28/06, 6/27/08, 10/28/09, 5/18/10, 5/21/10

I have to disagree. I do not think this will be their last album. As long as all of them are alive and healthy they will continue to make albums and tour and HELLO...being in your 40's is NOT OLD!
As someone else stated above...the reason why there is such a long delay in between albums is because Eddie, Jeff, Stone and Matt were working on their solo and side projects...taking a little break from the band but all along they have been writting music for Pearl Jam.8/29/00, 7/3/03, 5/24/06,6/28/08 & 6/30/08, 10/9/09,10/28/09, 10/30/09 & 10/31/09, 5/15/10, 5/17/10, 5/18/10, 5/20/10 & 5/21/10, 10/23/10 & 10/24/10, 9/3/11, 9/4/11, 9/11/11, 9/12/11, 9/23/11, 9/22/12, 9/30/12, 7/16/13, 7/19/130 -
I don't mind a wait between albums as long as they tour during that time. The tours that don't support new releases tend to have a more varied set list.0

That is a good album. Its Not Enough is an amazing song.
I know being 40 isnt that old, but therye at an age where their family should be more important. Plus By the time they record their 10th album (if they do) They will most likely be in their 50's. I would say thats pretty old, and by then, I doubt Ed will be screaming too much. I personally think Ed still sounds amazing, I like his softer voice. But by 50, and all of those cigarettes.....yea5/28/06, 6/27/08, 10/28/09, 5/18/10, 5/21/10

i think ed sounds better now, less growling and yelling. he knows the spots to yell and not to yell. this band will be around as long as ed doesnt lose his voice. hopefully he quits the cigs not only for his voice but for his kids now. i like there taking long time between records means i get to save money for more shows12345AGNST1 wrote:metsfan wrote:

Thank you! I thought I was the only one who thought Ed sounds better NOW then in the past. Ed was in his pime for 2000, his voice was a split right in the middle between early 90's ed and todays Ed. But I personally think his best sounding voice was from 2005. He let out some great screams during that tour. Anyway I hope he quits smoking too, but definately not the wine during the shows.

your welcoome. i also think alot has do with him growing up and maturing and accepting the past. 98-00 was his prime in my ears12345AGNST1 wrote:metsfan wrote:i think ed sounds better now, less growling and yelling. he knows the spots to yell and not to yell. this band will be around as long as ed doesnt lose his voice. hopefully he quits the cigs not only for his voice but for his kids now. i like there taking long time between records means i get to save money for more shows

exactly... at least i've had a chance to see them every year since 2005 for one show or another. as long as I can do that, I'll be happy, new material or not0 -
I don't see any reason for them to stop making albums. I just think they are pickier about what they want to release on an album. Heck, look at all the unknown tracks you can see in that one photo on Lost Dogs. There are obviously tons of tracks they could release but don't. I believe they just have a certain standard in mind for their records and apparently only put stuff on an album that fits its mood and appeals to them. The reason the main stream is thought of as a stream is because it's so shallow. -George Carlin-0

I read on the internet about a month or two ago that Ed was on some kind of detox diet and had quit smoking. I hope he kept this up and quit smoking for good!!! :P8/29/00, 7/3/03, 5/24/06,6/28/08 & 6/30/08, 10/9/09,10/28/09, 10/30/09 & 10/31/09, 5/15/10, 5/17/10, 5/18/10, 5/20/10 & 5/21/10, 10/23/10 & 10/24/10, 9/3/11, 9/4/11, 9/11/11, 9/12/11, 9/23/11, 9/22/12, 9/30/12, 7/16/13, 7/19/130
