3 - 3 1/2 years between records becoming the norm?

You know, the same thing happened with The Beatles. At one point, The Beatles were releasing 2 albums a year. Over time, the time period between albums increased.
With respect to Pearl Jam, I don't really care how long it takes to get new music just as long as it GOOD!!"I'll end up alone like I began..."

I know that all their albums are great, but I have a feeling this one is gonna be really special. With the solo work and all, I think the boys are really on their game.
God, I can't wait!!!

I think PJ will be around until they simply aren't
....they will hopefully make music togehter and solo until their last days. I think of all their heros (Young Neil, Tom Petty, The Who...all much older and still doing their thing).
And as far as Ed's voice goes...thank god it still sounds great, but you guys have to be kiding me. Listen or watch old videos from '91 to '94......his voice WAS POWERFUL. Nobody even came close."If you want a friend, feed any animal." - JA

Yeah, but when the Beatles hit that point they were peaking and releasing their best music. The longer gaps for PJ have seen the opposite... their weakest material yet.
I look forward to any new music, but I don't have high hopes anymore. They're not bad, but I don't think they're going to play with the kind of intensity and passion they used to have. They're like the Rolling Stones now... a great live act with some defining albums in their youth, but most of their new material is pretty generic and only for the die hard fans. Honestly, I think they ought to eschew the hard rock at this point, it just sounds forced. Their best moments the last few albums have all been the more groovy tracks... their rockers suck anymore. But songs like Inside Job, Army Reserve, Of the Girl, All or None, the Into the Wild Soundtrack.
The band never lets their songs breathe anymore, you get shitty hyperactive punk numbers like Comatose that Ed doesn't have the voice to pull off and the band doesn't have the heart to sell. They used to let their songs find a groove and even though the songs were slower they were so much heavier... think Deep or Once. If they refuse to do that anymore (and other than Inside Job or 1/2 Full, nothing fits the bill anymore), then they ought to slow things down and go mellow/acoustic. That's when they're at their best anymore.
Let the Neil Young influence be felt, no matter shitty punk tributes!0 -
I'm just excited its an album year. I'm so ready to dissect the thing the nth. Please give me a release date.0

When all is said and done ....
I think PJ have lost the Spark quite a while ago...
They keep releasing their bootlegs and stuff ..... honestly how many versions of Courdordy have been released?215? They´re overdoing it !!!
I really am looking forward to the new Album, but i don´t expect much....maybe 2 great songs and some filling material....But who knows ...mybe they dare to be openhearted again....0 -
yes, yes it is.0

I'd rather see new album and proper tour ... similar to Springsteen, U2, The Stones and so on....
When you fail to release new material and continue to tour you are becoming more of a nostalgia band ... and there's nothing wrong with that if thats what the band wants to be.
But there is something to be said about artists who continue to make new music every 3-4 years and then tours off the new material and that's what I prefer.I have certain rules I live by ... My First Rule ... I don't believe anything the government tells me ... George Carlin
