this place is pure evil. :p

after this thread yesterday i soooo got in the mood for their thai lettuce wraps. on the way home, asked hubby if he wanted to go.....he is sick, so a no-go. :( so then, i called my mom and she and i are going there tonight. :) haha. definitely having my lettuce wraps, and probably as per cutback's suggestion, trying those avocado egg rolls. may bring home a slice of cheesecake for the ill hubby. :D

btw - isn't it amazing how much utter shite, both good and bad, goes down in restaurants? :p

I wonder if it was the one at KOP for u too??
oh I kept eating - even amongst the tears :o:p Nope - it was the one in Cherry Hill. haha imagine if it was the same one and the same waiter :p

    What exactly are yuppie prices?

    Does McDonalds have "Bum" prices?

    Subway "Hippie" prices?

    Applebees "Liberal" prices?

    Outback "Conservative" prices?

    Dennys "White Trash" prices?

    I have never been there.
I have a weird issue about eating at places with weird names, especially chain restaurants.
The Cheesecake Factory. Ok, I don't care too much for any cheesecake besides Junior's in Bkln and the place down the street from me. Also, the whole place is named for cheesecake. I would never think they had good food.
Also, the Macaroni Grill. WtH is that? I have never gone there. It just doesn't make sense. Macaroni and grill don't go together.

Right. It falls into my theory of "the more extensive the menu is, the more underwhelming the food is".

Can't be everything to everyone. They should stick with the desserts and be done with it.

    very true!
it seems to me this is the case with most chain restuarants. i mean really, how great a meal do you expect to get from a restuarant usually located in or near a MALL, with outlets all over the country? :p i think they try and appeal to all, and it works to a certain extent b/c many people really don't like too many foods, and many people have no clue what 'real' ethnic foods taste like. that said, i've had hit or miss experiences with cheesecake factory and other chains, and i have hit up a few b/c sure...sometimes at the mall you decide to grab a bite. genius eh? ;) i do find some of these restaurants DO get a few dishes *just right*...and make it worthwhile. such as the lettuce wraps, they really ARE that good! and sure...the cheesecake is unreal. and i know what great cheesecake tastes like, and my own mom makes some kick-ass cheesecake. i also like pf changs, and neither of these places 'feel' like chains as most chain places due...perhaps due to their yuppiness. :D hahaha. seeing how unbelievably crowded these places are, and admittedly a lot of the chains with not-so-great food...they must be doing something right, and sure...most people must have low standards. :p

The food is just okay but the cheesecake is awesome. You should try it at least one time :).

I never went to the Macaroni Grill either. lol..you have a point, I guess the name doesn't make sense.

well I won't eat at the one here because the Manager called my work looking for a CERTAIN cream cheese that I know we've never carried. if we did it was as a fill in only, one time deal.Insulting my intelligence and basically calling me a liar.

what i don't understand, and my husband and i continually laugh about it...sure, while scratching our heads over it is: people who travel to new places, and then go and eat at the exact same chain restaurants as they have at home.

honestly, i do know the 'whys' of it...i just don't understand it. why bother to travel if not to experience the food, customs, atmosphere, etc? eh well....some only like to check out the theme-park attractions and be 'safe'...but yea. sure, chain restaurants are ok, sometimes good....when you are in the mood for something particular that they actually make well, when you need a quick bite at the mall, when you meet up with a group with diverse and/or unadventurous food tastes, etc. there's a time and place for anything, but yea...i fi go travel, no way would i be eating in chain restaurants! :p

I have reached a mental understanding with those kinds of people. I think they are just more comfortable. Does that make sense? I don't really like to go to a new or different gas station. Can't explain. I am just used to feeling so confused by how the pumps work. I have a fear of not knowing how to use the pump. :o
I think people are used to something and knowing that they are familiar with the place and the menu, it makes them feel more comfortable in their skin and in their surroundings.
Or I could be full of shit. lol

edited to add that I never go to a familiar place to eat if I can help it. :)

Haha poor guy! That would of been too much!

I was on the verge of puking...its a shame cause they have such good food, but I was such an odd day to say the least. I tried to go back one time after, the seat they were going to give me was right next to the "divorce" seat....so my friend and I decided to eat somewhere else. Just looking at where we sat made me sick to my stomach. Too bad now, cause I'll be living 5 mins from the KOP one!

Is it weird that, despite how much I love cheesecake, Cheesecake Factory cheesecake grosses me out? I can only eat the regular cheesecake with a little bit of raspberry sauce on it. The highly flavored ones make me shudder, haha.

I used to travel a TON for work, and I loved finding new and different restaurants in whatever city I was in. But I'll be honest with you: there were quite a few times where I'd spent 13-14 hours at the track, I"m hungry, I know I want a steak, and I don't want to fuck around with trying a new place 'cause I'm just not in the mood. I know I can get a better steak somewhere other than Outback, but I know it's going to be decent and it's consistent, whether I'm in Detroit or Phoenix or wherever.

Chains certainly have their place, and you're right... a lot of people just like going out and getting a meal where they know exactly what they're going to get.

Living close is gonna be a killer. The only thing that keeps me from going there every weekend is the traffic. :o Oh how I do love thee KOP mall :o:D
