what i don't understand, and my husband and i continually laugh about it...sure, while scratching our heads over it is: people who travel to new places, and then go and eat at the exact same chain restaurants as they have at home.
honestly, i do know the 'whys' of it...i just don't understand it. why bother to travel if not to experience the food, customs, atmosphere, etc? eh well....some only like to check out the theme-park attractions and be 'safe'...but yea. sure, chain restaurants are ok, sometimes good....when you are in the mood for something particular that they actually make well, when you need a quick bite at the mall, when you meet up with a group with diverse and/or unadventurous food tastes, etc. there's a time and place for anything, but yea...i fi go travel, no way would i be eating in chain restaurants!

oh I kept eating - even amongst the tears Nope - it was the one in Cherry Hill. haha imagine if it was the same one and the same waiter
Haha poor guy! That would of been too much!
I was on the verge of puking...its a shame cause they have such good food, but I was such an odd day to say the least. I tried to go back one time after, the seat they were going to give me was right next to the "divorce" seat....so my friend and I decided to eat somewhere else. Just looking at where we sat made me sick to my stomach. Too bad now, cause I'll be living 5 mins from the KOP one!

Is it weird that, despite how much I love cheesecake, Cheesecake Factory cheesecake grosses me out? I can only eat the regular cheesecake with a little bit of raspberry sauce on it. The highly flavored ones make me shudder, haha.
You're not a true fan...you're like the PJ fan who only listens to Yellow Ledbetter, Alive, and Evenflow.

Oh then you have to go back and reclaim it for yourself! The cheesecake factory just can't have that kind of power! Do it for the cheesecake - mmmmm the yummy creamy cheesecake

I'll be sure to reclaim it (maybe with a date!!) When I actually get some money...haha the prices are high! There's no WAY I can live that close to such good food and not eat it!!

Oh we should so go there on a double date and show that place who's boss (and order the lettuce wraps followed by some yummy cheesecake - and no tears!)

that sounds like a plan! maybe do a little shopping in the mall afterwards! OH man this is gonna be KILLER living soooo close to that damn mall!
"I'm not present, I'm a drug that makes you dream"
I think people are used to something and knowing that they are familiar with the place and the menu, it makes them feel more comfortable in their skin and in their surroundings.
I used to travel a TON for work, and I loved finding new and different restaurants in whatever city I was in. But I'll be honest with you: there were quite a few times where I'd spent 13-14 hours at the track, I"m hungry, I know I want a steak, and I don't want to fuck around with trying a new place 'cause I'm just not in the mood. I know I can get a better steak somewhere other than Outback, but I know it's going to be decent and it's consistent, whether I'm in Detroit or Phoenix or wherever.
Chains certainly have their place, and you're right... a lot of people just like going out and getting a meal where they know exactly what they're going to get.
Living close is gonna be a killer. The only thing that keeps me from going there every weekend is the traffic. Oh how I do love thee KOP mall
it may be a good thing I have no money cause if I did I'd be there spending it! and I'm not even a shopper....i'm a saver! But that mall does something to you!! just the shear size of it!

No money required - I get a buzz just walking through the place - then a little stop at the massaging chairs and off for some cheesecake

i'd say pretty middle of the road, but for a chain especially.....more of a high-end chain, thus i think the 'yuppie' label in the thread title. certainly is not an *expensive* restaurant by any stretch, but really it ain't *cheap* either. i think all-you-can-eat buffets, bennigans, applebees, diners.....those are low-end restaurant. sure, ruth chris and up...more the upper end of dining.
I visited NYC last year and decided to try a genuine New York Cheesecake (sorry, can't remember the place, but it was in Soho around midnight and it was packed!!!). Not only was it bigger and cheaper than what the Cheesecake Factory has to offer, but it was by far the best dessert I've ever tasted -- and I'm a big fan of cheesecakes!!!

I would say Dennys, Cocos, Carrows, Spires, and Norms, ETC... are low end...
CF is middle of the road for my budget...
