Digital Cameras- Need Help!!

Looking into purchasing a new digital camera for myself here in the near future, and thought Id give the board a chance to share some of their experiences / purchases with me.. I would really appreciate any input good or bad pertaining to my purchase. I would like to stay in the 150-300 dollar range including a protection plan, so I guess ultimately Im looking at 200 maximum price for the camera itself. I am NOT an avid picture taker , but do like to capture a few moments while im away and am looking for some quality in the prints.

After doing some reseach from circuit city I have found a few possibles with excellent ratings. Does every camera come with a memory card of some kind? Any help would be awesome..ty

I've never taken a picture a gift wrapped dog on ebay before...

edit: btw...skip the protection plan...I've found them to be useless on a recommended name brand like canon or nikon for example. Two best brands btw...

seriously. it's not the best looking camera but read the reviews...not just from amazon but sites like cnet and others. don't go buy the 'editors' rating either. read the customer reviews. afterall, they are the ones consistently using them.

people that i know that have the camera are very happy with the pictures and they do look good (the pictures, not the people)

for some reason we went with a Nikon when the Canon Powershot was on sale for $99!!! i mean, we are happy with the picture quality but spent more mnoney

My advice, stay away from Nikon, unless you're buying a high end $800 + model. Their cheap stuff blows. I use my 1.3 cell phone camera over it. Canon is by far the best quality cheaper camera to go with.

what nikon do you have experience with?

ours takes good pictures...it just cost too much for us.

Every single picture is blurry. It does take decent vids though.

i laugh at peoples reviews...if only they would learn how to change the shutter speed...

buy a Canon. I have owned Canons forever, and they take fantastic pictures. I owned a Kodak once...when i first got into the digital world, and it just never compared, so went back to another Canon, and love it. I have a Canon Pwershor A610. It has recently been replaced with other models, but have a look at that line. you won't be disappointed

I think this one was better than the previous version (that I have)

The menu's are also pretty difficult to navigate.

i'm not too fond of the menus on our model. but i would only rate a camera on the picture quality.

I have read some good reviews about the panasonic lumix, and the samsungs digitals as well. 1 question , do all digital cameras come with the charging kit , USB adapters and all that stuff? Do I need a 1 or 2 GB memory card? What about pixels? What are they?

Basically the higher the megapixels, the finer the picture. High megapixel camera's are really only necessary if you are printing photos and enlarging them.

Most camera's do come with all the stuff you'll need. Though you may need to pick up an additional memory card.

I TOTALLY preferred my A610 to the A590 I attempted to replace it with!

Yeah...Shutter speed ...blah blah....

Everything ran more smoothly with the A610 though. :(

I returned the 590.

Back to my 610... even though it's a little broken. (mosh pits will do that to a camera.

)

I'd recommend this camera also. I have a different model, but my mom has this one and I've used it many times. It's very good for the price.

I'd also look at the Fujis as well.
