i don't know how much bruce lee weighed, but i would guess around 170 just to put him a weight category. :) so if you look at the best in mma at the moment at WW, it's georges st-pierre. gsp would most likely take him down and submit him in relatively quick fashion. there is a lot of talent out there just under georges' skill level and i'd be willing to bet that most of them could do them same.

he'd have to adapt his style to prevent a fight going to the ground and maybe then he would have been dangerous. in jeet kune do, i think he developed his own concept of what was effective so i'm sure someone as gifted as he was both mentally and physically would fare well after incorporating new techniques into their style.

i guess to answer your question more briefly, suns rival, he would lose against most mixed martial artists with a decent ground game and takedown abilities. just my opinion. :)

there's no way i can prove this obviously, but i'll go out on a limb and say that bruce lee would take a giant shit on gsp if they were the same weight class.

but i think bruce lee was more like 150 after a couple of egg rolls.

thanks, i wasn't sure on his weight. so he'd probabaly fight at FW or LW and the result would most likely be the same, considering there is more talent in these lower weight classes. he would have a chance when the match starts standing, but if he had no ground game then he would get submitted pretty quickly when the match hit the floor.

edit: also, i don't think that georges would be "impress by 'dat performance." :D

I copied this from Wikipedia, so it must be true:

Lee's striking speed from three feet with his hands down by his side reached five hundredths of a second.[49]

Lee's combat movements were at times too fast to be captured on film at 24fps, so many scenes were shot in 32fps to put Lee in slow motion. Normally martial arts films are sped up.[50][51][52]

In a speed demonstration, Lee could snatch a dime off a person's open palm before they could close it, and leave a penny behind.[53]

Lee could perform push ups using only his thumbs[41][48]

Lee would hold an elevated v-sit position for 30 minutes or longer.[47]

Lee could throw grains of rice up into the air and then catch them in mid-flight using chopsticks.[41]

Lee performed one-hand push-ups using only the thumb and index finger[48][54][41][48]

    Lee performed 50 reps of one-arm chin-ups.[55]

From a standing position, Lee could hold a 125 lb (57 kg) barbell straight out.[47][41]

Lee could break wooden boards 6 inches (15 cm) thick.[56]

Lee performed a side kick while training with James Coburn and broke a 150-lb (68 kg) punching bag[47][57]

Lee could cause a 300-lb (136 kg) bag to fly towards and thump the ceiling with a side kick.[48]

In a move that has been dubbed "Dragon Flag", Lee could perform leg lifts with only his shoulder blades resting on the edge of a bench and suspend his legs and torso perfectly horizontal midair.[58]

Lee could thrust his fingers through unopened steel cans of Coca-Cola, at a time before cans were made of the softer aluminum metal.[59]

Lee could use one finger to leave dramatic indentations on pine wood.[59]

If he could do all that, I'm pretty sure he would do well in MMA.

    Hard to say.

What's true to date is that the best of the best in many MA's cannot compete in such events, so it's hard to say that a guy who wins some big event is "the best in the world" because there are sooo many out there who can't actually stand in the same ring, octagon, etc. as these other guys.

Either way, Bruce Lee was a badass nonetheless.

I don't think he'd waste his time with this.

to back some of this up...

there was a PBS special some time back on Bruce Lee. at one point someone was saying how some guy or student challenged Lee to a fight and the guy asked Lee if he was ready.

Lee replied something to the effect of "what do you mean? i already hit you..."

at that time, some teeth fell out of the guys mouth.

    hahaha

Bruce woulda tore any of those guy up..just imo and from what Ive know and read..jeet kun do was the style he created to counter any style. Weight would def be a factor so you would have to categorize him accordingly.

The whole idea of JKD is when the opposing guy makes a move, you'd have looked at all the faults in that movement, to cut off this movement, however insignificant, with a speedy strike at the weakest point.

For someone a bit slower, it'd be hard to pull off. But Lee has extreme speed compared with extreme precision and strike power. He'd eat all these guys for breakfast and clean up the dishes and finish reading the morning paper before you could crack open an egg.

I have to agree. While Lee was an amazing martial artist he did not have any type of grappling or Jui Jitsu experience. Any of the top fighters in his weight class with a strong ground game would have been able to submit Lee. If Lee, in his prime, would have committed himself to learning BJJ he would have been practically unstoppable in a MMA fight.

Just read some posts here. You people are nuts to think any of those guys could beat Lee. Sure they are more rounded then he was but he would know this and finish them in seconds. Seconds.
