It sounded like a giant sky elephant buggering a plane going through the sound barrier, and my chair shook.

oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.
  • No. I really should watch the news today...

This reminds me of the time that I forgot we were having an eclipse and couldn't understand why it was so dark.

  • I saw this on the news this morning... biggest one in 20 years in the UK apparently. There was also one in Donegal yesterday which was either the biggest ever in Ireland or the biggest ever in Donegal... what the fuck's going on? :o

5.2. Whatever that means? I never even noticed! I was writing to failedpersephone at the time. Obviously whetver she was saying was more interesting. :)
  • I live about 15 miles from the epicentre. Latest reports put it at about 5.2. Scared the living shit out of me, the whole house shook with things falling of shelves and the like. The dog spent the rest of the night on our bed, she hasn't done that for years.
Not the sort of thing we're used to in this part of the world. I could only liken it to the after shock of a bomb going off, the first thing I thought was there had been an explosion. Doesn't look like anyone has been hurt and damage to buildings is minimal ( a few damaged chimneys and roofs).

it means the Richter scale, which mesures the seismic energy released by an earthquake. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richter_magnitude_scale

back in '96 we had one and with this particular one a few seconds after the shaking stopped we could hear the sound of earth groaning(for lack of a better way to descibe it) it was absolutely the creepiest sound i have ever heard. i do love the feel of the ground rolling under my feet though :)

I meant, I'm not sure how much 5.2 or 5.6 is on the richter scale compared to a place like California where it's more common.
It sounds creepy to me. It's just not the norm here. Like Helen said, what the hell's happening?
  • seems there's an earthquake somewhere every day

Apparently the one in Donegal (not yesterday but Thursday it seems) was at the exact same time as one in Norway... surely Norway's not used to them either. There's suggestions it's something to do with the satellite shot down. And there's warnings of another one in Donegal :o

Apparently there are fault lines in Dublin :o I'm soooo sorry I googled all this :D
