Of you should. I'm just trying to cheer you up, young man

I just wasn't sure... for all I know you were saying 'you're too unstable to be a counsellor'.. Fuck it, you'd probably be right anyway. :)

The only counselor I could ever relate to when I was a full-blown psycho was another dude who had been through some similar shit... That's what I was trying to say in a previous post...

I get a real fire in my gut when I thinking of doing this.. ya know? And yes it's because I'll be able to say 'I've been there.'

Were you just looking for approval or their agreement? Or did you actually want their opinions? Do you think they are right, or are you just angry because the response you got wasn't the one you wanted?

If you think it's THAT great of an idea, you wouldn't let people stop you, and you wouldn't be back to square one, as it were. If you're that sure that it's something you'd be good at, then you wouldn't let what anyone else said change your mind on the subject.

Sounds to me as though they have put some doubt in your mind about this idea, which means you weren't 100% sure about it to begin with, which means maybe it wasn't such a great idea, and you needed someone to tell you. Then again, maybe it's a great idea, but you never know unless you do it.

Sometimes being shot down isn't a bad thing. We all have stupid ideas (i'm not saying this is one) that we think are brilliant, and it's better to hear from someone beforehand that it's stupid than to follow it through and find out that way.

What was my point? I'm not sure  I think it was that, if you REALLY think it's a good idea and something you would be good at, then don't let what other people say change your mind on it.

I agree completely... well said Dave. Mark, I'd say a good chunk of us have had an idea shot down at some stage in our lives. I've had my fair share of them. Usually I think 'the fuckers' and I get annoyed at them for 'ruining my dream' but looking back, if it was REALLY what I wanted to do I woulda said 'what the fuck do THEY know? Let them sort out their OWN lives'. I've recently figured out what I wanna do :) and this idea feels different to the rest... cos I KNOW it's right... it's not just an idea, when I thought of it, it was like a lightbulb was hovering just above and to the right of my head. Anyone I've mentioned it to think it's great... if they didn't I'd think 'you're just trying to steal it... or you're jealous... either way, it's what I wanna do and I'm doing it'. So now you need to decide Mark... do you take their negativity and give up and accuse them of 'ruining your dream' (just think of how ridiculous that sounds) or do you go with your idea and at least TRY to make it work? You're an adult, not a 16 year old talking to your career guidance teacher. It's completely up to you... nobody else is gonna live your life for ya.

genuinely great post that hells :)
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.
