Oh yes, regarding Calgary fans upset with the team's performance last Monday ... Hmmm ... Looks like an Alberta-wide phenomenon.

Dear Oilers:
I love you......dearly. Please win one for the old Kipper tonight, we need it. I am not ready to call this season, we can still be in this.
Im glad Mr. Katz bought the team and was sorry to hear about Horcoff and Souray.
I will be cheering hard for you tonight. Kick some ass, take names and bring hell with you.
Love your pal,
C.N.>>>>

Although I jumped off the bandwagon, I never ever left and was tied to it (by my neck mind you) dragging behind all the time.
Mind you I still feel shamefull and will endeavour to eat my last posted words (in the form of three subs) over the next week.
Who the hell would have thought that they would have gone onto to the roll they have? I guess it isnt that surprising cause those bastards do it to us every year.
GOOOOOIIILLLLLLLEEEEERRRRRSSSS!!!!
I had a good feeling after that San Jose game.:D
I would think the get together is still happening.>>>>

Man, imagine if they squeak in on this roll? Remember the last time they did that? My liver does.
Sadly, I don't think any of our injured vets will be available even if we made it in and went a couple rounds...still, I'm getting the impression that those young'uns are too confident to realize they're not supposed to be winning at this level yet. The only thing I'm NOT liking about the Oil right now, is that they aren't protecting leads...they are letting the other team back into EVERY game they get up in. Makes for exciting hockey anyway.0 -

Man, that building was on fire tonight! A valiant effort by the boys this last month....they went down fighting that's for sure!!! Have to say that Curtis Glencross could easily become my favorite Oiler!!! Can't wait to see him and the rest of the boys in action next season!!!
And I can't wait to enjoy the season with my fellow Oiler fans on here....next year, we will have an Oiler game meet up!!!!!!0 -
Nice job knocking out Vancouver last night.....SHAWEET!
However, I was in a bit of a conundrum. I hate the flames more than Vancouver (its almost an equal hatred). And if we would have lost to Vancouver then the flames would not have secured their playoff spot.
Whatcha gonna do?>>>>

Well I have avoided this particular thread for awhile now simply due to the fact everytime I post the Oilers lay a big egg, but with the season over I need to get out my thoughts on the past season and my projections moving forward.
After watching last night, although technically a meaningless game for us (minus the fact the higher we finish lower the draft pick of one Brian Burke), I was so inspired in what I saw. Our boys had nothing to play for, the Canucks had their play-off lives on the line, and we looked like the team that had the immediate future on the line.
We showed immense adversity time after time killing penalties, hitting, skating hard, shot-blocking, and I need to give props. to Jarret Stoll for taking a slapper to the head and coming back, playing with heart and to get the eventual game winner. What I seen last night is the future, and Oiler fans we are in for a treat.
I am proud of the fans this year, we were considered the laughing stock of the league all year. We supported this team like none other, watching the last home game against the Flames made me proud to be an Oilers fan. Crowd was loud and boisterous to cheer the boys on, although we lost we cheered. The same sentiments could not be said for Cancuks fans last night, booing their team all night, pathetic. I am proud to say the our fans do not act like that one goal down.
We were a team projected to finish in the bottom five effectively handing the Ducks a potential stud player in Stamkos or Doughtery, too bad for Burke he will get no better than 10th (I hope). When the injuries began mounting up our team rose, a youthful surge that swept through the locker room. We seen our future for the last three months and we shined. To quote (verbatim) Robert Nillson after last night's final game, "we love each other in this room, we have 16 guys under the age of 25 and we cannot wait for next year to make a serious push".
Some fans will be disappointed with missing the play-offs, but please realize that just the final month push has allowed our young players a taste of "real" hockey, this will pay off in spades in next year.
Some high-lights from the year:
- We smashed our record for man games lost to injury from 2006/2007 (345 I believe in total).
- Three rookies in the top ten rookies in scoring.
- Tom Gilbert breaks Paul Coffeys Oilers rookie records for goals and points.
- Our team had the THIRD best record in the league (behind San Jose/Carolina) for the last quarter of the season.
- We were the youngest team in the league at approx. 25 years of age.
- Our PP was the worst until the new year to shoot up to 20th (19th a week ago). Considering how awful it was it is amazing they rose up this much in less than half a year remaining.
- We have most the players in double-digit goal scoring in the league.
- Etc.
People are slowly starting to realize what kind of team we have, next year we will not be talking about this. Trust me, next year at this time we will be discussing our first round opponents.
Thanks for fun this season Oilers, you gave a kicked in the balls franchise a new identity, one to be proud of for years to come.
The best is yet to come.
Cheers!0
