I wanted to add my 2 cents about JK but don't want to argue with Helen all day. :p
And Byrnzie isn't here to back me up.

I have been down the Kerouac road with Helen before. No need to beat a dead horse. :)

Helen, I just read the Road! Holy crapola. I picked it up because you had been talking about it. Thank you for that...I may have missed it and it really moved me.

no stirring here. im just mindful of people who pay lip service to things with wit and deferential sarcasm whilst not actually addressing the original thought. :)

helen is not the only reader of this thread. and whilst she may be fully aware of your thoughts on the subject of the drunken kerouac there are those of us who whilst interested are keep in the dark.

whether you are aware of it or not trix, i am very respectful of your opinions and intelligence and as a reader of kerouac im interested to know not only your thoughts, but those of others.

    lighten up francis
  • that's cool and I respect that everyone has different opinions... but, like chime, I struggle to remember any of the sections you refer to :o

ahhh, where to start? the description of rolling through the hills in the west with no gas, the description of the party in the mountains, the discussion of how "normal" people aren't happy unless they have something to worry about. I wish I could be more specific but I don't really feel like digging out my copy, but it's all funny and its true and its things that are worth experiencing. Perfect travel book, its always one of my companions on my solo backpacking trips, just makes you appreciate being alive and free and not tied down to anything.

who the fuck are you? this is not your concern. trix doesnt want or feel the need to engage me, thats her prerogative. and i can respect that. she surely doesnt need you to put your 2 cents worth in. and nor do i.

oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

You'd be Ron Howard without the ginger hair and you know it. Kind of odd considering you're Scottish :D

Unless you're American or there's something wrong with you, you grow out of Jack Kerouac after about the age of fifteen.
