sounds like it was a much more than fair offer. 1 year guaranteed, $5 million base salary, $1 million bonus for making the playoffs, another $1 million for making the ALCS, and another $1 million bonus for making the WS. By making the WS, Torre is guaranteed another year for $8 million. Very, very fair. Just the base salary is $1.5 million more than any other manager.0

The Yanks have are at least on the right track thinking JOE.....its just need to be the other Joe. GIRARDI.
I don't blame Torre at all. Good for you.

It was fair. To me this is Joe basically telling the Yankees to fuck off after having to read the threats of his boss during a playoff series that he was trying to win.Reading 2004

Well Torre's base last year was 7.5 million with a million dollar bonus for a World Series victory. I'm thinking Torre wasn't too happy about the incentives in this offer and the 33% cut in base salary considering what he's done for the franchise the last decade plus and the fact that the Yanks are full of money.- Busted down the pretext

can't say i fault him for that, especially that he managed the team that is responsible for the most profitable era in the history of the yankees.Reading 2004

It should also be noted that when the Yankees hired him, he was flat broke. He is now a very, very rich man.0 -

That may be the case - I don't know.
But to give the man who took your team to the playoffs 12 years straight a pay cut when you're going to have greater revenues in the next three years (with the closing of Yankee Stadium and opening of New Yankee Stadium) is insulting.- Busted down the pretext

well, if they made the playoffs again, he would have made $6 million. If they won the first round, he would have made $7 million. Double what any other manager in baseball makes. Is there a manager or coach in any sport that makes $5 mil or more?0

I'll try to find specific details, but I think it had something to do with a brother in law, from a previous marriage, ripping him off in some real estate scam. It's pretty well known, if not talked about very often0
