Brokers would just reissue tix to customers, it might help with street scalping, but wouldn't solve other forms.

True. But at the end of the day, if you must go through a scalper and get raked over the coals, the least you should be able to do is know that your ticket is real. Scalping, as bad as it may be, is legal. Selling useless pieces of paper on the streets of Manhattan (or anywhere else) should be punishable and enforced (but good luck with that as I'm sure it's pretty low on the polices to do list).

but brokers don't normally rip people off by selling fakes.

Plus, it couldn't work if you had to show ID or use your credit card to enter. The brokers would only be able to go themselves and enter if they used their credit card

Exactly!!! I paid a bit more than I wanted to for my ticket, but it was from a powerseller on ebay with 100% positive feedback. As to the people being outside a venue without a ticket, I could never do that if tickets were available by some other means. This couple last night had a sign stating that they were from Atlanta trying to score two tickets. I'm sorry, but those folks are a little too spontaneous for my liking. Who the hell travels over a 1000 miles without a ticket?!?
you realise that the guys outside the venues are also the powersellers on ebay?
there was fake/stolen tickets at the Astoria as well.
They would have been at the Vic if it hadn't been for the 10c system which made it impossible..though I heard of fake wristbands.

the only reason I hate the front of venue scalpers even more than the internet ones is that they intimidate, even threaten, the people that try to sell at face to a normal person...I'm going to end up in a fight with them someday..
