Video games will be the RUINATION of Modern Society!!

Videogames are great.
At least they are more interactive than TV and movies. If you like TV and movies and don't like videogames you are a hypocrite and well...pretty stupid.0 -
Seriously, with RPGs you have to make your own decisions and work with the consequences of those choices, you have to use foresight and strategy, solve puzzles...that's waaay more thinking than what goes into watching the average movie. I won't go as far as to compare them to books because there are some incredible books(and some films) out there that will introduce ideas and philosophies that you, yourself, might never have thought up on your own. But video games aren't all bad, in the least. If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.

Oh, I got a few Role Playing Games for you baby! :cool:Abookamongstthemany wrote:Seriously, with RPGs you have to make your own decisions and work with the consequences of those choices, you have to use foresight and strategy, solve puzzles...that's waaay more thinking than what goes into watching the average movie. HushBull wrote:What will ruin a society is people making such radical judgements about things they don't understand or enjoy. We get it, video games are not your idea of fun. However, there are many many productive people living in a functional world that deeply enjoy their polygons. And there isn't anything wrong with it. In moderation, which is obvious.
You are right on two counts: they're not my idea of fun and moderation is key. I'll also admit I've never tried the "thinking man's" games.
A lot of you gamers make good points ( except for the dude who called me a stupid hypocrite
) But here's why I really don't care for them....
1) My wife teaches 3rd grade. She's got way to many kids who (because their parents don't care) play video games for hours but never do their homework.
2) We have free time where I work. We can read or watch TV or play cards or play video games or whatever. It kills me to see a grown man yelling at a video game (especially when these same grown men are hard pressed to write a coherent email).
3) Our public library has been overrun by folks who view it as "the free DVD and video game" store. I want to scream, "Read a fucking book!!!!"
I'm done. Thanks for listening

All hobbies and leisure activities are lowering the world's productivity  Total waste of time.
Let's just sleep and work, maybe eat when we need to. The rest can be scrapped!

hate to tell you but the video games arent the reason kids arent doing their homework. if there werent video games they'd be watching tv. no tv they'd be outside playing tag. unless the parents step in homework is the last thing kids want to do after spending all day at school.
think about it. you go to work for 8 hours and then they expect you to do more work at home and have it ready first thing in the morning. yeah right. and all this with no pay.
they are kids they want to play. simple fact.0 -

In fact, this message board, which is so much more real and vocab-developing (;)) is exactly what I use when I want to delay doing my college work.Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.0 -
and this has been proven too, before anyone calls bullshit on Perceptual.Perceptual wrote:Games give you hand-eye co-ordination and special intelligence together with map reading skills."I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"0 -

i can find almost anything to not do my school work. sometimes i just nap. but almost anything is better than writing a 10 page paper. i bet i could have beat every game i own since i started college, with all the time ive wasted not doing papers and studying.
cant blame video games for my lack of studying.0
