My littlest cat jumped out the window and left!

So I know, I'm the crazy cat lady, blah blah...

But this morning when I got up I noticed that the little hole in my screen window that is over my deck was now a huge hole! And my little cat, Noah was MIA.

So I freaked out and ran outside. (my deck is a shared deck that runs along the whole outside of the building and then connects to all three floors and has access to the second floor roof, and then it drops off in a little courtyard and then there is a little fence door that goes to the alley)

So I'm like Noah! Noah! and I hear Meow Meow, and I look down and its Caitlin, one of my other cats! So now I know 2 of them escaped. So I grab Caitlin and put her inside and still no sign of Noah. So I run downstairs and start to yell his name and I hear a little faint meow in the distance and I can't find him anywhere. He's really attached to me so he started to scream more and more when he heard my voice. I finally spotted him hiding under the deck on the second story between the roof and the deck. And when he saw me he shimmied out and ran over to me and jumped into my chest!

I was so relieved to have found him. I was almost in tears thinking about him getting out in the city, he'd surely be hit by a car or something.

So I'll be spending my memorial day weekend patching up that screen! Home depot here I come.

Silly boy!

I'm so glad you found him. I know that panicked feeling. My cat got out of our backyard once and was somewhere up in the grass and rocks behind our house. She was really old at the time and has always been an indoor cat. Well there are all sorts of critters out there like cougars, bald eagles, other cats with claws and dogs. We finally sent our dog to find her. Which she did, she herded the cat back in no time. Course Stella was unimpressed spitting and hissing the whole time but at least she was home :)

yeah, Noah acts all tough, but if he came up against another animal, I don't know what he would do. I swear Caitlin went out to find him, because 5 mins before that, she was inside up on our bed, and then she had jumped out the window too. They act like mother and son, so she was probably worried.

So glad you had a happy ending. :) I know how awful that is.

    Glad you found him. Yikes!

My Rosie got out one night. Was completely my fault. I had the sliding door open (with the screen closed all night). I was grilling so I went outside, came back and thought I closed the door (not the screen). Well, I went to bed later and noticed Rosie wasn't there (she sleeps on my bed at night). Got up to look for her and noticed the door was open . Knowing that I f'ed up and doing the math I figured the door had been open for at least 2 hours. I grabbed my flashlight and went outside. I called for her and thank god she came meowing and running up to me.
Was scary! I never would have been able to forgive myself had I not been able to find her!

A girlfriend of mine in Korea's cat ran away for about 4 days.

They usually always find their way back in the end.

Edit: In fact, my cat in England once ran away for a week.

I am so glad you got your cat back - its the worst feeling in the world.

I have a PJ related lost cat story. We were supposed to leave the night before for NYC MSG II 03, and Rosie got out and we couldn't find him (yes he's a dude - my kids thought it was a female when we found him years ago) for hours, so we couldn't leave, and I had to go teach my aerobics class and my kids were supposed to continue looking. Finally they found him at 8pm and he'd been treed by a feral cat that we feed who was charging around and glaring like 'WHAT', when we looked at him. My daughter had to climb like 20 feet up a tree to get him.

I had a cat run away once and I hated not knowing what happened. :( but I won't get into it as mine didn't have such a happy ending.

Oh, it was only a joke? boo! ;)

Noah has been extra sweet since he ran away from home. I think he knows how sad it made me.

More like he realized he almost threw away a cushy gig - food, warmth, love, and comfortable sleeping quarters!

What's funny is our ex-feral cats that spent adult time outdoors show NO interest in going out, but the ones that came in as kittens are fascinated with looking out. I think the adult ones are like 'been there done that, its better inside'.
