So does that mean it's not a 4 star hotel? lol0 -
The future of the Hotel Pennsylvania is up in the air as it may be torn down as part of the new Penn Station/Garden complex. I always worry about that sort of thing - how well maintained it is.
I'll ride the wave where it takes me...0 -
Stayed at hotel PA in 2003 not that nice I am gonna stay out on the island this time and come into manhaten via LIR and get drunk
then yell for even flow and jeremy0 -
I stayed there in 2003. It was $99 a night and the headboard drilled to the wall fell off while I was sleeping. The place was a TOTAL shithole to begin with, but this really pissed me off.
I went down and complained and they gave us a huge suite.
The only thing good about this place is that it is right across the street from the Garden but at $250 a night, I'm staying with friends and subwaying into Mahhattan."One just escapes, one's left inside the well... and he who forgets will be destined to remember"0 -
Check out the New Yorker hotel. Very close, right across the block.

I highly advise NOT using the Hotel Penn. They conveniently lost my reservation for the '03 shows which I booked for $150 a night, and then told me they never have rooms for that rate but that I could get a room for $220 a night. Totally ripped me off and since I was in a bind there was nothing I could do about it. Total scam.Bright eyed kid: "Wow Typo Man, you're the best!"
Typo Man: "Thanks kidz, but remembir, stay in skool!"0 -
One other tidbit about the Penn--its where they put up the folks (and dogs) for the Wesminster Dog show in February each year. Dogs are welcomed. They even have a room during the show that has straw where the dogs can go--if you know what I mean.
FTR--I have stayed there and its a typical NY tourist hit or miss.0 -
I stayed there in 03 too (didn't we all?). We didn't have any major problems except they gave us a king bed instead of the 2 beds we reserved. it was pretty crappy, but as far as we could tell it was clean. we spent as little time as possible in that room though, it was kinda creepy.
and yeah I think we paid $150...I wouldn't stay there for the rates they're charging now.0 -

Not not everyone stayed there...
As I've said in like 7 posts before...even though I live 40 minutes away from msg (by train) I decided to stay in NYC for the shows. I used "Priceline: Name Your Own Price" and stayed at the Waldorf Astoria for $100/night.
People.... IF YOU WANT....Use Priceline and try for a 3 * or 4* hotel for 100-125. I'm not the only one who has posted about this numerous times in the NYC hotel threads. I do it a lot in major cities (NY, SF, Philly) and do very well. It is your decision....but in my opinion it is worth a shot.0 -
What are the priceline hotels that come up near the Garden? I used it for the US Open and got a nice hotel near Grand Central for $145 plus fees.So this is what it's like to be an adult.
Atlanta 4-3-94,Charleston 10-5-96
Atlanta 8-7-00,Atlanta 4-19-03
Vegas 6-6-03,Vegas 7-6-06
Chicago Vic 8-2-07,Columbia 6-16-08
MSG I 6-24-08, Philadelphia 10-31-090 -

It's Manhattan so try any number of areas 1 by 1 (adding on...as you have to...if you know how the system works you'll know what I'm talking about...if you don't you'll see as you do it...) starting with the one you want the most.
If you're not happy with the fact that they haven't accepted a price of yours...I'd hold off a little, personally. Priceline drastic cuts may not be in effect for many hotels yet. They may still want to see how they book up by then. It's still well over 2 months away.
The Times Square area (Maybe they call it midtown north or something) tends to produce a lot of priceline hotels. A couple of years ago I got the Hilton Times Square... NYE week (although not for actual NYE...didn't try) for like $115 + / night. That I believe was called a 3.5 * hotel.0 -
Thanks. MTE was where I stayed last time. I may throw some lowballs in there early and see what happens. So this is what it's like to be an adult.

You are right, sometimes rates get drastically cut 2-3 weeks before the dates you are bidding on. It is a risk though, cause the last thing you want is to wait and then be stuck with few choices if availablility does not come up.
So far I have managed to get sweet Priceline deals on Tampa & Hartford. Having problems with West Palm, DC and NYC though ...
But as you said, there is still plenty of time.
If people out there start winning NYC Priceline bids, it would be appreciated if you post them here
I have been using priceline for years and there are some tricks if you want the best deals and best chance of winning. First I would suggest the web site biddingfortravel.com. It explains tips on bidding that you may or may not know, shows the hotels that have been won in the priceline areas, and the $ of winning bids recently.
My wife and I are making a little vacation/anniv. celebration out of the MSG shows and staying until Saturday, I got the Tribeca Grand Hotel for $195 a night on priceline last week. I'm still working on the other days."I turned my back,... now there's no turning back"
