it's a lovely place to visit i'm sure

We have extreme heat, but its not as humid as other places...dry heat rules!

I'll take earthquakes over hurricanes and tornados.

I remember one time I was on the east coast during football season...it seemed very weird that people had to wait until 9pm for Monday Night Football to start. We got it here at 6pm, so it was more of a happy hour event.

True, but being in LA for the Red Sox Yanks series and having the games start at 4:05 just didn't seem natural. If I lived there, I'd still be at work when most games started.

It was even weirder being in Hawaii for the 2006 shows and trying to wake up on Sunday to watch football. 1pm kickoffs were at 8 am Hawaiian time.

Glad I'm not a sports fan. I just want to live somewhere that gets a good selection of shows on a fairly regular basis. Don't have to be IN the city...but something within travel distance would be awesome

well that's year round now....global warming and all :)

and that doesn't effect the whole area like a hurricane that wipe out a whole city

Well, we can waste time watching games at work, instead of losing sleep to watch them!

The only time we get a late game is when ESPN shows University of Hawaii home games.

This is true. dry heat is better than being in heat and humidity
I just don't trust anything that bleeds for five days and doesn't die.

As someone who only sleeps an average of five hours a night, I don't mind staying up. ;)

But I'm just an East Coaster at heart. I guess maybe if I grew up out there it might be different. But in my 4 or 5 trips to the West Coast, everything just seems too laid back than on the East Coast. Like they say different strokes for different folks.

Very true. I'm already planning my third trip back out for next year. It simply is amazing in Hawaii.

Alright. What do you guys think is the best city to live in when it comes to being able to see shows, sports, shit like that. something where if you do have to travel, its not to some place very far.

On the positive side, L.A. gets every band, except for maybe some Brit bands that only choose to play the east coast. We also get a lot of secret or surprise gigs by huge bands wanting to play small places to raise a buzz about new albums. We have all of the sports except the NFL, but USC and UCLA make up for it.

On the downside, the closest major city is San Diego, and getting down there for a gig could take hours because of the traffic. Also, since there are so many people here that are connected to the entertainment industry, it is difficult to actually buy good seats to a show (they hold back a huge amount). In addition, many gigs are full of record label employees who could care less about the bands they are seeing, and instead, talk during the entire show as if what they are discussing is important to the rest of the world!

Amen. One time it took me 6 (Yes 6!!!) hours to get to Santa Barbara from San Diego. (For those who don't know...it's normally a 3 hour drive.)

Our section was mostly fanclub members, except for the lip/breast enhanced, much-older-then-she-looked little blonde vixen who was milling-about.

In Berkeley, the pit was mostly non-fanclub, so we got drunk middle-agers who only cheered for the 90's hits!

My new hobby is to spot middle-aged fellas at concerts wearing "the outfit", which is a button-down short sleeve shirt with palm trees, flames, or busty pin-up models in martini glasses, as well as a pair of leather New Balance shoes, and a pair of stone-washed or prefaded/prewashed Levis!

Yes, I am a cynical bastard!
