that is how much i just payed for 200gl of oil for my house ,im sick of this i might have to convert to heating my house with wood burning stove anybody out there have one of those stoves this sucks .....

    I feel your pain, I paid $434.85 for 150 gallons at Thanksgiving. I don't have a woodburner.. we have been using the electric portables.

    DAMN!!! That's a fucking lot of money. My girlfriend's mom has one at her place out in Pennsylvania. It worked real well when we went out there for a weekend. If you have a big place you would probably need a few of them around the house.

    will see if i have to revert to that method just heat the rooms with electric heaters and save on running the burner ....

    when i first moved into my house 13yrs ago that amount would of been enough for the whole winter and some now i'm lucky if i get to march ....

    My old house was oil heating as well and I remember it being about $350 for 200 gls. That would last us about 2 months, 3 if we where lucky. It's just freaking crazy now the cost to heat a home. Even gas heating is getting ridiculously expensive.

    that actually isn't so bad for our area. we used to have oil, then we converted to gas. don't really knw if it;s any cheaper...i just think it's cleaner/more efficient/easier.


    i honestly don't think you'd save so much with a woodburning stove. i definitely don't think it's so great for indoor air quality.....your house would have cold spots...and wood can be prohibitively expensive unless you go and chop down your own trees. i also don't think electirc heaters 'save' you any $$$ either...it's more like borrowing from peter to pay paul...same difference.


    so just suck it up and monitor your thermostat...and sure, wear layers. ;)

    I don't think gas is that much cheaper. It is for me because i lower the heat before I leave the apartment. Back when i had the house and my ex and I where still together the heat stayed on during the day because the kids where home and we kept it up overnight because of the kids. Now I only put it up when I have my kids so for the most part my heating coists have gone way down.

    agreed.
    we too turn our thermostat down before we leave for work. however, we always did that even when we had oil. i just prefer gas for the points listed above. bottomline, heating costs are expensive...and we all live in an area with quite a high cost of living. all part of the price we pay to live where we live.


    and ALL of this, heating/fuel/etc....not going to get better until we develop afforable/doable alternatives.

    You would think though that fuel for home heating would be a little cheaper considering the cost of gas in our area is one of the lowest in the country.

    will see my house is ranch 1floor easy to heat with a stove, and layers yeah that does help and keep the house at what 68 degrees it might help i guess ,my son won't ever wear layers he walks around the house in hi's boxers ha ha ha he pays no attention to being cold at all daughter is different she likes to dress a bit more for when in the house ha kids ...

    i'm in a ranch too. :) however, even when we have a fire in the fireplace in the LR...the rest of the house gets very cold b/c the thermostat is in the LR and yea, only the fire warms the room it's in. i know a few people who have woodstoves and while it is quite warming, it really doesn't do too good a job at warming multiple rooms, etc. that's all.

    A wood stove would cut the costs back huge. If you lit it up when you got home from work, two logs could heat most of the upstairs for at least six hours. Which in turn would keep your gas/oil heat from having to come on until the upstairs cooled off. And if you don't mind sleeping in a cool environment, you could set your heat so it wouldn't come on until 20 minutes before you got up.

    We have a fireplace in our basement and I sure wish it were upstairs on the main floor or we had a wood stove.

    I have gas heat and my bill last month was over $300.

    Jan and Feb run $400 if its cold

    as i said, i disagree. our fireplace warms our LR and nothing else. i actually like it a bit cooler when i sleep but yea, not THAt cool. :p anyhoo...i'll agree to disagree. i know a few people who have woodstoves and swear by em, but for a fairly consistent indoor temp, i just don't think woodstoves/fireplaces cut it. you'd need a few. but hey, just my little ole personal opinion. and especially woodstoves, i find them quite unattractive and take up precious living space. to each his/her own!

    We live in apartment and pay $65 a month towards garbage, water, sewer and STEAM HEAT.

    Sounds great, eh?

    Well, management has control over the boiler, so I often find myself wrapped in lots of warm clothing. What a deal. :rolleyes:

    yeah we also have a fireplace inthe LR but i would add a wood burning stove and place it in my denn at the back of the house will see how this winter goes, if i was to do this i would install it during the summer i'm not going to start a major job like this now but something to kick around as i pay for another oil delivery ...

    yeah, I just cut a check for $741 for 220 gallons. And it doesn't even last as long for me, as I have an oil fired hot water heater
