yeah cops do the sitting and waiting thing all the time, and they really don't even need a "reason" to pull you over as far as I know. When I was in high school we used to like to go this nearby town that was a penninsula because they had this great look out point over the water. since there was only one way to get on and off this "island" and since the cops in this town had nothing else to do, they would sit at the end and wait for people to drive over. a car full of teenagers was all they needed to pull over. We would tell them we had a friend and town and were going to her house. My grandfather lived in this town so we'd give them that address. it was really craziness, we weren't drinking or doing anything illegal except going to this town where we didn't live!0

satansbedbugs wrote:This is an example of EXACTLY why I do not drink and drive. As I was leaving a local watering hole tonight ( about 30 minutes ago ) after a bite to eat and NO ALCOHOL thank god, I was going 52 in a 50 mph zone. Next thing I know this cop is flashing his lights behind me on his loudspeaker saying " pull your vehile to the side of the road ". So I graciously pull over . Here is the sequence of events:
Cop: Hello sir , I stopped you because your were at 55 in a 50 mph zone and your licence plate light has only 1 working ( is that probable cause? ). Where are you coming from?
Me: Oh ok, I had no idea my light was out and Im just coming from the Bar down the road.( which I hadnt had anything to drink, so I was proud to say " The Bar" )
Cop: Licence, Reg, blah blah blah....Have you been drinking?
Me: Here you go ......and No I havent had anything alcoholic tonight sir..
Cop 10 minutes later: Please watch your speed as you pull out , and have a good night..
Me: TY, you do the same.......
thats it? This cop pulled me over for that? He was sitting litterally 1/2 mile from the bar....Is that entrapment for those who are going to be leaving soon? Are they allowed to just sit there like that?
Another reason why I do not drink and drive!! live, learn.....

That's not bad when u compare it to what I usually get. I'll give ya a quick rundown of the last 2 times I got pulled over by the pork:
Incident #1:
I was pulled over in the middle of the day on rt. 4 in New Hampshire, which is a 2-lane highway kinda road. I was doing 5mph over the limit or something...but the statie came FLYIN' up behind me, lights on, whaler on, etc....so I stop, and he comes out immediately over to my window and yells "where you coming from?!" I mean, there is absolutely no reason for him to be all tense at this point. So I say "from somewhere back there" (pointing back down rt. 4). He's like "oh very funny!....lic & reg, smartass". So I take my time diggin' that stuff up before I give it to him (hehe). Then he says "you got any drugs or weapons in the car??". So I tell him "I have a mag-lite and some Advil". He then FREAKS out and yells "wait right the fuck here!"...he went and ran my plates (dunno why he didn't do that before he got out, but anyhoots..). He obviously found nothing on me, and I wasn't speeding badly enough for him to gimme a ticket, so he comes back and whips my lic/reg at me, and lets me go with a stern verbal warning not to drive through "his town" again. I forget what town it was though.
Incident #2:
I was driving in my hometown, again not speeding. I drive by a cop on the side of the road, and of course as soon as he sees me, the lights go on. I pull over into someone's driveway, since this is on a small street. The driveway has a steep incline, and the cop stumbled on the way over to my window (which I lol'ed at and he heard me). He comes up, face bright red, and says "who are you and where are you coming from??". Again, a cop is immediately freaking out over me. So I say "Jim...my house". I give him my lic/reg, and he starts walking around the car...he does this 2 times. Then comes back to my window and tries to tell me that my inspection sticker is a fake, and that is grounds for an arrest. I laugh and show him the paperwork from the place I got it at. Then he takes all that and goes back to his car and gets on his little coptop computer to check it out. He comes back like 15 min. later and apologizes HAHA....hands me my shit back, and says have a nice day. I say nothing, and back out of the driveway and speed off.
I got a handful of these, I swear. The basic point of these stories is simply this: cops are VERY nervous when they see me for no apparent reason, and I get very paranoid when cops are near me as a result. I'm sure there are some wonderful cops out there...blah blah blah....but srsly, stay the hell away from me :P0 -
I got pulled over in high school and the cop said his reason was that my license plate didn't match the car...
The truth is that he saw my buddy (who could get served) walking out of a bar with a bag of six packs... he followed us for a bit, then pulled us over for the license excuse... That plate was on my car for 2 years and I even pulled over once for running a red light, so if it matched up then, it would have this time too.
They ended up citing us for "disorderly conduct" instead of underage drinking, which would have really sucked. So we paid our $80 fines and left it at that...
If he would have cited us for underage, we would have fought that, but it wasn't worth fighting it for disorderly conduct, knowing that they could probably bring up the booze. My whole life

Speeding (even just 2 MPH over the limit) is probable cause as is any light being out.
Sbb was pulled over because of where he exited, using the light and speed as legitimate probable cause...at that point the cops are taking a shot he may be impaired (and coming out of a bar late at night their odds are decent), if he's not, probably a warning or just a "get that bulb replaced", if he happens to be drunk, they make an arrest. This weekend we rock Portland0 -
This is yet another example of white people being oppressed by the police.Do you remember Rock & Roll Radio?0

no offense dude but what a stupid comment. it's actually the complete opposite - cops today can't do crap without some moron complaining or filming it. there was a recent case here in Philly where a few cops got fired for beating up suspects (who were in a speeding car that they had to strop) in a TRIPLE shooting all because it was filmed by a tv crew. sorry but if you are suspect in a triple shooting and are speeding away from cops you deserve an ass whopping.
the cop in this case was just trying to do his job and get a possible drunk driver off the road and yet people like the OP and you think the cop is just being an ahole. I ask the original poster: Isn't trying to get drunk drivers off the road worth the 10 minutes out of your life that this stop casued? If it saves someone life (not this time but it other cases) it is surely worth it.0 -
I was pulled over 6 times in 15 months and never given a ticket. My car is a hunk-o-junk and it looks like a druggy loser would be behind the wheel... Everytime they would pull me over, they would see I'm just a sweetheart and not doing anything wrong.I really screwed that up. I really Schruted it.0

You were "speeding" ...
I'm sure NWA has been mentioned by now. I don't hate the cops, but I hate the ridiculous little rules they have to uphold, I hate the fact that people are so stupid that they think everyone else is incapable of living safely and responsibly without these laws.THANK YOU, LOSTDAWG!

Where I am, you get a 5 mile grace period. But because you were coming from the bar, I can see them not having that grace period.
I don't see it as entrapment that they wait across the street from bars. They aren't FORCING drinks down your throat and then tricking you into driving. (Not talking about the OP since you weren't drinking, I just mean in general).0 -
haha Yes they do need a reason. I got pulled over when I was 16, the SECOND day I had my license. I was driving to my nana's house to go swimming and play/help baby-sit my younger cousins.
Of course I was being extra-cautious because it was only my second day driving. I am almost there, and I see sirens behind me. I pull over and am terrified. I roll down my window and the cop asks to see my license and registration. Trying to not to cry, I ask what I did wrong, when all of a sudden I hear a tapping noise on the passenger side of the window. It was my uncle, laughing HYSTERICALLY at me! He is a cop (now a captain) and was with a lower-ranking officer. He instructed the other guy to pull me over. The other cop said "I need a reason--she isn't doing anything wrong!" My uncle replied "Just find a reason--the color of the car is brown!"
So this has scarred me for life. To this day I still feel a little scared when a cop car is behind me.BUT, touch wood, I have never gotten a ticket!

Haha! It is funny now but I sure didn't think it was then! My mom really read him the riot act when I told her what happened.I still tease him about it to and make him feel bad. Especially now that his oldest son is 17 and is driving and his daughter will be getting her license next summer

Well, where I went to college he wouldn't have taken your word for it and would have made you do a sobriety test followed by a breathalyzer.
My roommate delivered pizzas in college and he would get pulled over and harrassed at least once a week. They could clearly see the stack of pizza boxes and they'd still give him shit about being out so late and if he was drinking.
Cops can take shit waaaaaay to far at times.0
