Honestly, how lucky is Pearl Jam to have had 3 great drummers.

Most bands cant fill 1 spot when a guy quits, dies, or gets kicked out.
Shit they went from Dave A. who was good enough in the studio and live, to Jack who elevated their studio work to a super high level, to Matt who elevated their touring to ultra.
Most bands do not get this lucky!
We never discuss this, its always who is better and who sucks, when in reality they all were great.
Some people have religion I have Pearl Jam.

I think their work with Dave A. was by far the best...jack and matt are alright, but the intensity seemed to be a lot higher with Dave A.

Dave Abbruzzese wasn't the reason for their early success!!! Grunge was!

Jack and Matt brought out the best of the band into new dimensions.

Dave A is so great he disappeared, I think PJ has been just fine without him, and were plenty intense before and after him. Jack and Matt, especially Matt, who brought the whole thing full circle, are special.

If you weren't lucky enough to see Dave A., listen to a few bootlegs from the time. You'll understand what people are talking about and the kind of energy he brought.

Matt Cameron was the first because he was the drummer on Stone's original demo tape

Pearl Jam has been lucky with the drummer spot yes!

Dave A was the shit though! He was also a very likable guy, he was just unlucky to be in the wrong band.

I remember reading about when ten went gold. Jeff had mentioned it during a dinner out and everyone was just 'oh wow, thats cool' and nothing more. Just a 'oh by the way' that came and went. Dave was so excited about that news that he had to leave the table, call up his drum technician and they would go up to their hotel room to celebrate by jumping up and down on the hotel bed for hours. That was the kind of person he was.. Alot of fans were devastated when Dave got fired. Kelly Curtis called it a mutual separation though, but Dave told the media he got fired.

Sorry to bring up Dave again, but I feel he is being unfairly treated by some people here.

Good post, based on some of the readings on him, he seems like a drummer who would be in bands like Foo Fighters, U2, Queens OTSA, bands that aren't so intense.

Might even worked as a drummer for Pearl Jam(06-present) since they seem to have become more at ease.

Chris Friel from Shadow (Mike McCready's old band) drummed on that tape as well.

Yeah, I agree. Pearl Jam was way too serious for him. Funny you mentioned foo fighters cause Dave got fired right around the time Dave Grohl was making the foo lineup. Maybe Dave A was in the consideration? He was one of the hottest drummers at that point and must have gotten a shitload of offers.

Wow I jhave to lay off the beer, I am cruising thru the page and forgot I put this up, I was like this post is good I was thinking the same thing and realized I put it up.

Now Yes the band was more angry when Dave was in the band, more creative with Jack, and tours more funtionly with Matt.
