Evolution occured in a time of food poverty and susbistence, not teh food excess we live in today.
Energy dense food like fat, and necessary salt were an advantage to a caveman, or a tribal human. They enable successful reproduction. We are not evolved to survive old-age, we are eveolved to reproduce.

Also, chocolate and strawberries rule !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Evolution doesn't need a stress factor, necessarily.

Who said anything about stress ??
MOst of our evolution occurred pre- Fertile Crescent, an dis based around a predatory fat/protein diet.

I still say chocolate and strawberries rule !!!!!!

It's been running through my head since Ahnimus started the thread but for the life of me I can't remember what it was an ad for.

I think it might have been margarine, but I'm not sure.

Anybody???? It's driving me nuts!!!!

yep, it was for margarine. :)

I should have said "adaptation". In the evolutionary sense. Of which no human is conscious of, as it happens, cuz it happens so slow. You know?

I think it was for butter. I remember seeing as rude cartoon once where Rita the ETA eater, and that annoying hag with the chalk and toothpaste had a lesbian romp rubbing each other all over with margarine. There might have been some Hoover action up the old girl too as I recall.

Rita was on the end of that link that roland posted and she said something about the taste. You know and then the old "Ripper Rita" got trotted out, but I reckon it may just have been an earlier version of one of Rita's ads luce.

I'm thinking more and more that it was Rita because ETA's whole market strategy was about the taste. And apparently the ads ran through the 70s and the 80s so they probably went through several installments.

Wish I'd seen your cartoon though! :D That sounds like a cack!! :D

  • Ms Bunny Gibson is Rita the ETA eater.

    ...all I could find.

"Blayney Shire’s Australia Day Ambrassador this year is Ms Bunny Gibson will be present at the award ceremony. Bunny has an successful career in theatre in Australia and overseas. She has received many awards for her work in theatre. Bunny’s recognition as Rita the Eta Eater over the years has created opportunities for appearances for various charity organisations."

Eta 5 Star margarine at the very end of the first vid of the Aussie commercials series. But is looks like a more modernized version.

I really have too much free time...lol...

Yeah, I found that one too roland. :)
And she is on the last part of part 1 of the link you posted.
But I'm sure there was a jingle that went along with her and her "Ripper Rita" catch cry. I so wish I could find it. It's just swirling round and round in my head!! Arrrghhh!!

From an evolution perspective - besides "God did it!" - why would we have evolved tastebuds that make bad things taste good? Shouldn't we find vegetables and stuff far tastier than salt and lard?

Evolved taste buds? As in the tongue was just a piece of muscle that kind of sat at the bottom of the mouth all these eons and slowly developed taste? Who dosen't find veggies and fruit tastier than salt and lard?

I had a good episode when I was young and cut my tonge almost off. There is a lot of grafting on it. Funny thing is I still can taste most things. Now if they taste like they are supposed to is a different question. But how am I to know.
