who killed the electric car?

i saw a preview for this movie called "who killed the electric car?" imdb has several celebrities in the movie, including martin sheen, tom hanks, and mel gibson. anyway it looks pretty interesting, but i was wondering if anybody knows what did happen with the electric car. it seemed like a huge deal a few years ago, and now you don't hear a thing about it, or even the possibility of owning one. i dont have the patience to wait for the movie, and it seems like such a pressing issue today. any info would be appreciated.

haha! I bet the italians will be running those ferrari cars on some of that one day.
how cool would that be,
sorry, but with your nickname, i couldn't resist...;)
you know they have an extremely efficient and well-running engine that runs on water right?
Crafted by a guy who originally designed it to power blow torches (which worked incredibly). I saw a video of it.. the metal cut beautifully (he said it worked way better than anything else they had) and the only thing put off was water dripping down the sheetmetal.
The military already has experimental hummers running with these engines and companies are biting eachothers' heads off to get the rights to it.
unfortunatley we probably won't see any of these until our oil wells are sucked bone dry.

Yeah, BMW are leading the way with it.

BMW: The Driving Force for Hydrogen
Hydrogen: it's the lightest element in the universe. It's also the most common, available in an infinite supply. When combined with oxygen, hydrogen burns in a virtually clean manner, creating water vapor as exhaust. That’s why BMW believes hydrogen is the fuel of the future
BMW wants the best of both worlds with its hydrogen-burning cars of the future.
The German automaker wants a pollution-free vehicle. Officials also want a vehicle that feels like a normal car — not an electric car — when it's driven.
Such a car could be here by the end of the decade if BMW has its way.
"Germany will definitely have them before the United States," said Gordon Keil, products communication specialist for BMW of North America, the automaker's marketing arm in the United States. "But we'll be close behind."
What's spurring development in Germany is the high cost of gasoline in Europe, he said.
BMW hopes to have hydrogen-fired internal combustion engines in use in about seven years, he said.
Most people also seemed convinced that electric cars used no fossil fules. Power for the electric cars came from the power utilities that burn fossil fules. And since no American actualy needs to be informed of anything. Almost everyone overlooked that fact and that 80%+ of power generated at power plants is lost through resistance in transmission and distribution.
Hybrids are the way to go but Toyota & Honda still need to work out the economics to make it more attractive for people only interested in saving money on gas and not the environment.
Still, i think the new technology has to be embraced widely for it to improve as rapidly as people would like.

I think so too. I tried to trade my car in for a Prius earilier this year but Toyota (and Honda) still have a $3500 over-sticker premium on hybrids. I still want one but I think I'm gonna hold off a year or so.
Show me the money!!!! See people Japanese companies are money grubbing greedy bastartds too. Don't blame them (or US companies). Only a complete idiot would run a company at a loss.
we'd then have to create that much more electricity - through coal burning, more nuclear plants.
you're still stuck in the energy cycle somehow.
