:( seeing eddies temper flare up like that was a little concerning.
from up front we saw him launch his bottle of wine, kick equipment off the stage & scream at stagehands.
yes yes we know all about the angst and the passion that fuels the band blahdy blah...but come on...shows are supposed to be a GOOD time!!!

i mean, someone give the guy a footrub or something so he can chill out.

:) see you all monday night, hopefully under better circumstances and lighter moods!

and be prepared to rock out harder than ever!!!

Haha all i have to say is watch out when he tosses a harmonica..
I came THIS close to getting one right in the forehead at the philly show in 05.. I would of been pissed! haha .. would of left a knot but luckily, it landed in me hand.. :):)
  • yeah ed got pissed off in columbia due to multiple guitars being out of tune...
Which i can see the plight as a musician, that must suck! Seems like he has been gettin a bit more pissy in his old age :D Rock on though.. thats ed for ya.

He was in a great mood though mostly, kind of back in forth. He was really impressed with The columbia crowd .. Kept talking about "all the beautiful faces"

Columbia was so intense... Ive never seen the band members make so much contact with the fans. Usually ull see them grazing the crowd a bit but i noticed EVERYONE in the band making direct eye contact for long periods of time with multiple fans. Tampa was the first time i was ever on Stones side and actually got to "rock out" with him.. its always good when daddy pearl jam is having a good time :D They were really searching for the energy and they got it from every person that night. The more and more shows i go to the more and more i realize how important that is to them. They need the energy from us or its useless...

Maybe the wifey needs to whisk Ed away for a nice de angering vacation :D If not, she can take me... im so tired of being in savannah! These fucking tourist ruin my summer every single time!

Which show was it where he complained about out of tune guitars then chalked it up to his hangover. I think it was Tampa?

Could he possibly be upset that he's been wearing the same pants for the last 6 shows?

    hmmmm...

I remember his guitar was out of tune at a couple of shows.. I believe the hangover was Columbia because he had mentioned staying with The guys from KOL when they did roo which was right before the Columbia show.

but i remember Columbia vividly because he ripped the freakin strings off his white guitar after he had been having issues (which was fucking bad ass if i do say so myself) I so wanted to go home and rip the shit out of my guitar! Then i realized that im not a rock star and stings aint cheap! :D

It had to be columbia then, if he was talking about drinking with KOL. During a song he stops playing, and starts yelling at a stagehand, pointing at his guitar. The stagehand brings him another one, plugs him in, and off he goes. Afterwards he tells us that the stagecrew are telling him that every guitar he's getting is in tune. So he points to the his head and says it must be in here because of the hangover (paraphrased). He later messes up a vesre of Severed Hand(?) and just starting smiling and pointing to his head again.

i haven't seen anything else mentioned in this thread about the subject, so,...

the pipes visible on stage were blowing cold air in Ed's direction to help him keep cool, there were ducts positioned on either side of Ed's on-stage monitors. during previous shows (MSG shows onward) we've seen Ed complain to Rick (his tech) about the pipes not being positioned to Ed's satisfaction and Rick has done his best to ensure they're angled just right to blow cold air right at Ed, but it clearly hasn't always worked out that way.

last night, however, it seemed not enough cold air was being blown in Ed's direction, which made it difficult for Ed to keep cool. in addition to Ed's frustration with the lack of cold air, on 2-3 occasions during last night's set Ed turned towards Rick to inform him about the issue but Rick's attention was elsewhere as he was tuning Ed's guitars everytime Ed turned to him (Stone's tech had to get Rick's attention each time to let him know Ed needed his assistance). needless to say, Ed was losing his patience and feeling frustrated.

i'm not sure where you were sitting, perhaps the angle was off; however, when Ed left the stage during the McCready Even Flow solo, he walked towards Rick and THREW the bottle of wine right at the backdrop, at which point the bottle did indeed SHATTER on impact. the moment the bottle shattered, we could see the wine just spill everywhere and fragments of glass fly everywhere. none of the crew were prepared for it, and you could see some fear in their facial expressions - matter of fact, Jill was standing side-stage next to Kerrie and even she had a nervous look on her face, although she and Ed didn't communicate while he was standing side-stage after once again complaining to Rick.

after Ed watched Mike's solo from side-stage, he proceeded to take a new bottle of wine and then headed straight to Matt. Ed spent a minute or two sitting on the back of Matt's drum-riser where a cooling fan is positioned, and he had a smoke and likely enjoyed the comfort of the fan before returning to the front of the stage to wrap up the song.

Yeah I noticed something odd during Black last night, he kept looking back @ Rick and actually I think he missed some lyrics towards the beginning of the song because of it... and he then knelt down while singing into the mic and fiddled with something in front of him... im assuming it was a fan but last night i thought something might have been wrong w/ his microphone cord.

    Wow! Awesome
  • there was actually a point during the columbia show where he did the same thing. apparently the cooling tube was broken and ed was kicking it and trying to rip it off the stage in frustration.

seems to me i've been hearing about a significant number of technical problems this tour. kind of surprised to hear its happening so frequently.
