That was very interesting from teh quick read I had. My knowledge about this stuff is pretty rudimentary, just stuff I have read in passing, without ever studying it. I do have a magic book full of Hubble images though.
I think that kinda re-inforces my idea that science is too much for a lot of people though. A smaller Universe dominated by a supreme being who supposedly has our intersts at heart is a lot easier to deal with.
Personally I am quite happed to be awed by teh immensity of teh Universe and comfortable with teh idea that I am but an inconsequential brief grain of dust iagainst the big scheme.
Dust I came from, dust I'll become !! Sounds cool to me !!!!!!!!!!Music is not a competetion.0 -

That's all I am. Yet, our species may one day save the galaxy from the borg.
We are not insignificant to ourselves. A single person can change all of humanity. I think as long as we focus on our place in the cosmos and those things that are within our influence and control, we can make great change to our place. But if we imagine we are part of a greater scheme, as many relgions do, we are at risk of hurting our place for what we only imagine is the greater scheme.I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. True, I am important to myself, and to the immediate world around me, with which I can meaningfully interact, possibly even proving thereby that I exist. I certainly exist as a provider for food every night for my animals, cos the dogs howl and the horses go batshit until they are fed.
BY expressing my cmofort with my overall insignificance, I was alludign to teh discomfort that many perople feel at own loneliness in the cosmos.
I am fascinated though, wiht teh Pillars Of Creation in teh nebulae sen i teh HUbble pics. The Cone Nebula is my favourite.Music is not a competetion.0 -

People change too. I never took an interest in astronomy until the last few years. Now I wish I had a telescope and somewhere to actually use it. :(I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. Ahnimus wrote:Who is to say? Gravity so far is metaphysical. But in both light and gravity they are only known through their interaction with physical elements. Some speculate a particle "Gravitron" as the source of gravity. Who knows? But we do know that photons are particles of light. Photons may be massless, but they interact with physical reality.
On supernatural, everything is natural, nothing can be supernatural. I see metaphysics as the same deal.
well, something could be supernatural, if a God or Gods were directly related to any specific events or objects which thereby was the cause of the failure of human sciences to account for the said case. metaphysics is simply a category for incategorizably-improveable facets of existence.
edit: gravity is a great example though, thanks.we don’t know just where our bones will rest,
to dust i guess,
forgotten and absorbed into the earth below,..0 -
So, it turns out my bro's gf's bro is taking philosophy in university. We hashed it out for a couple of hours last night. It turns out I know some stuff he doesn't. But he also had some good arguments.
